ASUS TUF FA506 and FA706 (A15 and A17) available (on Amazon US + ASUS ) [*Update*] both laptops are sold out with incoming shipments (and delayed?)

Wh0_Am_1

When searching for a "4800h laptop" on Amazon US, the FA506, and FA706 appear, has (delayed again?) released.  The laptops are also available on store.asus.com.

image.thumb.png.19a3ea0fe4801b419dc0e62ee4e8c67a.png

both laptops are only available in Fortress Gray and with 90Whr batteries for the moment (which leave no room for the 2.5" SATA 3 drive slot).

81Gi7d1IdpL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

Curiously though, both laptops list 4800H as being "Quad-core" despite our knowledge that the processor is an 8 core one, and the spec sheet for the FA506 lists the 2060 as being "Max-Q".

[*edit*] The quad core mistake persists on the Asus website as well:

image.png.db9f8e318c57e8a2ffbc19e66abfaa48.png

The value offering of these laptops is immense with the new 4800H, a 90 Whr battery, an RTX2060 or GTX1660ti, and the ruggedness of these laptops, and these laptops are sure to be a hit, especially with COVID 19 being what it is, thereby with the supply chain disruption that ASUS must be going through I highly recommend purchasing these laptops before they go out of stock.

*Edit*

And they are gone.

image.png.b5548570fa6a96f6a429244bdcb8708b.png

They are now for sale again but are being sold by a third party vendor.image.png.490020679dd56ec7066447faf10b8740.png

*Update* available for pre-order again?! Amazon now lists the release date for the 1660 TI version of the A15 and the A17 as April 10th, and May 1st for the 2060 A15. (What is going on at Amazon right now?)

*Update*4/8-9/2020

The 1660 ti version of the A15 appear to currently be shipping by mid-May the A17 and 2060 version of the A15 look like they will be further delayed 'till late April to Mayday (they changed the date twice in 24 hours) with shipments expected around mid to late May.

Cool that means, the G14 is around the corner.

Indeed, there is a listing from at least one large retailer, that being North American Best Buy.

1100-1200$ for an 8-core Zen 2 CPU, 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD? That's going to be nigh impossible to beat.

Indeed.

Thats such a good deal im baffled.

Honestly I don't see them remaining in stock for more that a week with how so many people are working from home or are just self quarantining and are going to want system for work or for play.

Not to mention the 120/144 displays AND decent input devices on the RoG laptops

Maybe when we're entering a worldwide economic recession bordering on depression we shouldn't be recommending people to rush out and buy commodity laptops.

I mean sure people may be buying this as a commodity to play video games. But the reason why I typed that was because: With all of the people who just got told to work or study from home many of them are in need of a new system to get that work done. One that will still be of use to them when this is all over, and for a ton of people that means that they need a laptop and this one has the power to deal with CAD and other intensive software, while having the battery life to give them the freedom they need, at an incredibly low price at that. And as this fits the bill for a lot of people while having a low price of $1200 USD, and the supply chain disruption, this laptop is bound to disappear, thereby I was basically stating:  "If you need a laptop and want this one, you better get it while you can."

It has optional 90Wh battery which can provides 8-9 hrs battery life. The overall package is amazing for the price. Sadly the cooling still sucks (27-40W CPU power limit when GPU is under load). Also, low sRGB and ~15ms 144Hz

JEDEC spec which means CL22. Still better than 2666 CL19 though. Dual channel 2666 will be faster than single channel 3200. Intel 10th gen H will use up to 2933MHz

Wanna add. For development TUF A17 looks outstanding variant, if you don't agree to use desktop. Big SSD + 16 GB RAM + good CPU is main requirements for fullstack development using local hosted development servers, database, several IDE's at once. Just add at least one additional screen. Good GPU of this laptop should allow comfy develop games using Unity, for example. Extend RAM to 32 and you have decent portable video editing tool, even if laptop screen not so good. Just connect decent second screen when you can.

How significant weak cooling for hardware? It shorten life of harware?

Is it possible to connect to A15 and A17 two screens?

Lower performance (max performance can't be achieved), reduce components lifespan (in theory)

I don't believe I have seen any reviews on that matter yet, but if it is anything like the G14 then it should make Macbook look like the Sahara. As for shortening the life of the hardware it will likely be pathetically outdated before any such failures could occur.

Any reviews out yet? From what I saw on the G14, cooling appears to be very good.

Seems like some new paste and undervolting will be enough, from what I can see and gather and based on the size of the cooler

I bet the new Legion R7000 (Y550) will perform much better than FA506 in stock config, just like FX505 vs Y540

Unless they use the Y545 chassis and heatsink. Then it will be much worse. :D
