There is no blacklist or anything atm. I only can again recommend you to share your logs and config.xml .  Sometimes the advanced client isn't shown directly and you have to get at it form the task bar.

i think that doesn't cover the problem, because after that point i restarted the program, but it never went back up ,_,

(was postulating that i got blacklisted somehow, but removing the config file didn't help)

EDIT: okay sequence of events

  1. manually started GPU slot
  2. GPU slot receives job
  3. black screen
  4. hard reset, but GPU not detected
  5. reseated GPU, came back
  6. FAH refused to run
  7. reinstall didn't help
  8. manual removal of program and config files
  9. fresh install, started to run
  10. redid my config, still fine
  11. closed FAH
  12. opened FAH, refused to run
  13. see log above

THX for the edit. Same problem No WUs available.

About the black screen: BIOS, Windows, Chipset driver, GPU driver up to date? Are you OC on GPU or CPU? Wich PSU do you have? Is the system Prime95+furmark stable?

worth noting: i removed the GPU slot while reconfiguring in the order of events i mentioned earlier, but it used to have the same flags. GPU was working fine yesterday, so I'm not sure what caused all these...

it's totally not running at all. it doesn't appear on the taskbar, it doesn't appear in task manager > details...

XML: Atm I only see CPU in there. you have to add the GPU.

But of first about the non starting of F@H: Try to uninstall it with https://www.revouninstaller.com this free tool tries to clean up everything left by an app. Then make sure as I mentioned above everything is up to date and reinstall...

yeah that was intentional. i removed it when i reinstalled earlier

done (manually), done, done. ran once and never ran after closing the program

Hmm ok thats odd... but the power related issues could be the cause of the initial fail. Why it isnt starting again I. dont know though...

Dont let your systems idle!

Mine is sitting idle at the moment too as I'm not getting any CPU work right. GPU get's some but I have no info.

I think Stanford servers just getting smashed by all the new interest.

I noticed some issues just trying to look at stats URL before and was getting "bad gatway" errors as it appeared to load from the databse.

1. There was really call to action on TechLinked yet the event stars... two weeks from now? I'm confused. How is this emergency response? I decided to run the software anyway.

This has to do with participant stats tracking, there needs to be time for people to sign up so the people running the event know who to monitor for their F@H stats during the event. You can at any point run F@H which is generally/always good but events do need some kind of organization to work. Outside of events LLT team stats are not tracked and ranked other than official F@H/Standford stats. If you haven't done an LTT F@H event before you won't have any idea or have seen how the event rankings work, as to be expected.

Have a look over a past event, https://linustechtips.com/main/blogs/blog/1287-folding-month-2019/. If you love spreadsheets then you're going to have a lot of fun, if not eye bleed awaits :).

It takes a lot of work to make sure the scripts to gather the stats work correctly before the event, can't just assume last ones will work this time. I'm not involved with them but from what I understand they aren't written in such a way new entrants can be dynamically added, hence the sign up date etc. While not impossible to add that capability it's likely a complexity thing.

2. I've stared with making a forum account to join the team (later I learned that this is for points only? team id is enough?). I decided to use Facebook to sign up. The app is broken (something something app developer not activated someone never did it right). Google it is.

Forum account is only required for LLT Forum events, anyone can contribute F@H folding points to any team they like, all you need is the Team ID. We of course want you to contribute to the LTT team even if you don't participate in LTT forum events, but any or no team is fine too.

The main thread (linked by TechLinked) has no installation instructions. Cool, perhaps there are other threads.

WAN show hosts that day were unprepared and have no knowledge of the LTT folding team beyond it's existence. If you're a long time viewer of the WAN show being unprepared isn't exactly new or unexpected though, mostly why I like WAN show though.

Just FYI what they linked had zero to do with this event, that is why you are confused. They dropped the ball then kicked it away by mistake bending down to pick it up, pretty epic fail.

Ok, there is a long name "Folding@Home Install Guide and Links - LinusTechTips_Team - 223518", seems relevant.
4. Two install guides (?) and Chrome Folding App. Back in the old days everything run more effective as standalone. I'll try that but who knows whether I'm right?
5. Software asks me for the name (I can put anything right?) then team id while the post is talking about the passkey. Oh, it's later in the post (and in the title) but it's hardly in the order the user needs the information.

I have fixed the links and removed the Chrome App, that got discontinued. Did a bit of a tidy up but @GOTSpectrum (or someone else) basically needs to write up a new post that is up to date and cleaner/clearer, either as a new topic or I'll edit/replace the existing one.

6. Let's get the passkey now. It didn't work. I've resent it (4 hours). Nada. I've resent it (4 hours). Null. FAQ on the Stanford page says nothing about delivery problems. Oh, here it is - 3 emails in the morning. Welcome to 1995. I started software without the key, I can add it later, right? It doesn't say that I can. Fork it, I'll reinstall if needed / edit config files / whatever.

Standford servers are under a lot of increased load right now, normally you would get the email immediately. Global interest in COVID-19 and F@H is very high right now, much higher than normal, so high in fact they keep running out of work jobs to give out to F@H clients (this is good).

"I use this to run Hyper-V hosts....". URL doesn't work. I use Hyper-V manager to run Hyper-V hosts, no idea what this is about then. Fork it, probably not relevant for me, perhaps stuff for people with more GPUs than cases.

Removed it, considered it basically old and irrelevant now. Separate topics that cover more advanced setups have been made, or should be, that cover setups like that. Not something a regular person have to worry about or needs to see in a general how to type topic.

8. "For version for running in Ubuntu, here is a link from [H]ardForum for their Ubuntu Desktop Install version:" - let's click a link. Just in case. Oh, right I have to sign up first to read what's behind the link. Fork it.
9. "And also a link for their new Ubuntu Appliance version:".. is it behind... yes, I need to sign up. Windows it is.
10. "Folding@home Installation guide! Linux distros and server." I stopped reading after the red 32bit. Already decided Windows it is, I ain't reading about no 32-bit. It's been already a tough evening.

Removed all of this, also old and not useful. F@H Linux install guide (links now working) is good so check that out if you want to do a Linux install.

13. Software seems to be running, needed to speed up the pump to keep the fans quiet, yeah it's fine. Wait, the GPU is not working. Why isn't it working? It says ready, downloading, collection server 0.0.0.0 what the hell.

As I mentioned F@H is under more load than ever, there's just not enough jobs to hand out for everyone so for now seeing your client doing no work waiting/ready is expected behavior. This won't last too long but at least for the next 48 hours at a guess.

14. Oh, there is a Google Form on forum to join the event. Why isn't it on top, why would I need to read about what COVID-19 is first before I  find out there is a form to fill? Oh right, emergency response will start two weeks from now. Ok, whatever. LTT Forum Name: Jaom. Folding name: ....? Jaom? . Send. Is that it? I have no idea.

Tend to agree with that. @GOTSpectrum you able to move it up the post or make it stand out more?

what antivirus are you running? can you whitelist F@H install directory and the user\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient ?

weird thing is with Compute set in the driver PPD dropped to 460k from 500k,

So are you on a Vega card? Depending on what changes with the compute setting this can happen. F@H is optimized for Gaming GPUs since that is what most peeps have in their systems.

Found an old hard drive a few weeks ago that struck a notsalgia nerve so I started a windows 2000 build for some old school gaming. Now FaH is showing up in my feed?? It's like 2002 all over again! Just joined the team and setup a rig to fold.

Me and @yaboistar are working on a updated FAQ set up guide. It just has been put on the back burner with the event coming up.

The OP will be edited today, it was thrown together so that we could get the event started and thus get a WAN shout out in place ASAP.

I don't watch WAN show. It's bad (in my opinion).

I do watch TechLinked. So that was prepared. Although it was The Worst Facial Hair Decision Guy dropping it so I guess it was kinda unprepared too.

By the way I really do appreciate your work. All of you. Especially those dumb enough to put their personal time in instructions, guides and everything. Most of what I did in my life was for non-profit and I gained mostly complaints. I still love it, I'm sure you love it too. Keep up the good work. 🙂

Verry nice! But mind that there is a WU shortage at the moment. If you want and have the time also download BOIC and do some rosetta or something like that untill you get the next F@H units. This helps also in fighting COVID.

GUYS!!!

So the event has blown up far larger than anticipated and unfortunately many of the usual guys who are involved with folding events are not available, I am asking for anyone with decent knowledge and experience of spread-sheeting to let me know if you can help me out.

You will need to be available 00:00 GMT for the days of the event.

EDIT: Please be aware that this event has been rushed through, we usually have weeks of planning and testing involved with an event of this size so bare with me as I try to rally the troops and get some hands on deck to help me out. In the meantime @Metallus97 is working on an FAQ to help out and I will be reworking the OP tonight.

Hope the WU shortage is fixed untill we start :D

Although a WU shortage is a very good thing to happen!

And Damen Idd love to help but sadly I have to study hard because on info when the exams will start because everything is on hold right now in my country but I still work most nights..

I can maybe help on some days or with different tasks... doing my best to do F@H  install and error fixing support here so you guys can manage the event itself!

i've ran several projects on the CPU as well, so perhaps this is showing the combined value? I'm surprised myself, as the list online shows RX 580 is supposed to do 330k.

Optimizing for Gaming is good thinking

Yes! But dont overdue it! A 100% stable system is worth much more than one thats a bit faster but crashes from time time. A crashed system is a a loss of time and b cloud lead to a WU failing. A failed WU will have to be resend to someone else for a second try.

Thats why I suggest: If you want to OC your folding box do it CAREFULLY! This is even more important for GPU folding!

Absolutely! Looking just at the team 0 (everybody without a team given) the production did rise to a extend of 8x what is was before the COVID stuf. https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=0

yeha now that can take a few hours. Start folding anyway but mid to input the key as soon as you get it!

No. Whats your configuration and are your drivers up to date?

Checked all of my drivers are up to date and reinstalled the client, no change.  just loaded the client on my other machine exact same 50% load.

PPD is also dependent on the specific project you are doing. Also "accurate" PPD readings can be expected after a few work units being done in a row without breaks between them. That cant be done atm due to the shortage!
