Unfortunately not all of them are just 15. These are mostly not tech savvy people who see the Apple logo 1) as a sign of reliability and 2) as a cool thing to have.

they got amd and intel powered models and assuming you do your own ram and maybe storage upgrades are a good price.

The review of the old air by linus was fairly positive despite the title. There is more to a laptop than a spec sheet which older macs nailed.

IMO it's probably fine for most people; so long as it has more than 2 threads and 8gb of RAM most people are generally unlikely to notice spec-ups most of the time especially with the comparatively better optimization in mac

As always, used laptops are absolute steals compared to their new counter parts. You can get used Pro 13's with much much better specs for the same or less cost. Windows laptops the same in that department.

You're right but many people are, reasonably or no, uncomfortable buying used

It's worth to point out that this list of best selling laptops are US based. 

 

If you do same search on EU bases site you will get the Macbook at #23.  On the first place you will get Acer Chromebook.  It wold be really interesting to see a list of best selling laptops that is based on world wide sales.

I will say that Windows laptops took far long to get good looking and feeling vs Mac. Once you hit Retina pro's, which are sub $500 at this point, you are using a very nice, albeit a bit dated spec wise, machine. Can't really say the same about 99% of windows laptops from ~2014.

I like how I am using a acer aspire e15 with a 7th gen intel i3 to watch this video.

BTW this laptop is much better than my brothers macbook air, that the fans turbo FULL BLAST when he is playing insurgency.

also the airs break really easy with my sister dropping about 5 ml of coffee and the thing just kinda died

...no really stressing out a laptop at 100% makes the fans ramp up gosh you don't say. 

 

and then apple tunes it so that the fans don't spin and then people complain that it thermal throttles like what do you want them to do...

without context of where the coffee was dropped this is meaningless. if i dropped even a drop of water straight on the motherboard of your acer while it was running it would be dead instantly. 

 

also neither acer or apple market their laptops as water resistant nevermind waterproof so saying that because someone spilled water on a laptop that it's bad for dying because of that is ridiculous.

Could stick with the fact that it's outdated model, could've said it dies very easily if the ambient is a little moist (seriously I've seen it happen, it dies as if had liquid spillage), could've said it's better to get a 'full' MacBook as nowadays the difference in thickness is marginal and the performance is way different and so on…

Instead went for the idiotic idea that PCs are better and should be the one and only choice no matter what. Even went as far as saying they had to 'work hard' to find a PC alternative as if this was a demerit - in reality it shows how good a outdated Apple laptop is still good today.

I would definitely buy different laptop, but there is no logic pro x for windows.

Logic costs just 230€ and it includes a 60gb audio library (high quality instruments) and all the plugins I need. If i bought a Windows pc. I'd probably have to buy a new daw + a lots of plugins to match apple's logic pro (good plugins are very expensive). Therefore, it's way cheaper to just buy a mac.

Of course, there are ways to do a hackintosh, but I don't want to waste my time with troubleshooting etc (I read in some forums that people had problems, especially with logic).

Cheap laptop. Costs $750. That ain't cheap. Cheap is $400 and you probably get some low end Pentium something in it. Or really old Core i3. For $750 I can get brand new Ryzen 3700U, 16GB RAM and 256 or 512GB SSD and 1080p display from HP or ASUS. Got my Ryzen 2500U, 8GBN RAM and 256GB NVMe SSD for under $550 (500€) and it's an excellent performer. Sure display is only 1600x900, but I was fine with it for what I need it. The CPU is really fast and is not far from a desktop Core i7 that has the same core count which is pretty freaking amazing for the price. These Ryzen xxxxU quad cores with 8 threads are freaking awesome value and they perform great too.

exactly. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro and I will continue to use it until Apple drops support for it and then I'll just replace it with a newer used MacBook. 

 

I have an Asus zenbook as well which is newer, but I like the MacBook more because of the build quality, trackpad and keyboard. sometimes there is more to a laptop than a spec sheet...

especially because intel sat on their ass for sooooo long. the i5 in my MacBook Pro still feels fine and webpages load really fast in my experience. I found it kinda weird that Linus said that the air he used in the video felt slow when opening things, because my laptop is a lot older and it's fine still...

also I assume that if apple drops the 2012 the 2014 and 2015 will still be supported, so I can just buy one of those if apple drops support form 2012.

Yeah they updated it and it still makes more sense to buy the MBP. It's like the old macbooks which were an awful value
