FreeNAS has some set up guide youtube videos. I highly suggest watching those before starting. They walk you through the process step by step.

What are you trying to use FreeNAS for?

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

Sure why not? I did it over a decade ago with freebsd being your age whilst just experimenting. Spotty linked a great guide and well if you have a old pc laying around you can just experiment to your hearts content till you find the solutions that work for you.

I think it's doable if they already have a general understand of computers. My only advice with FreeNAS in particular though is: "If you don't know what the setting does don't touch it." - Windows7ge

I can't count how many times I've bricked my FreeNAS install because I touched a setting I didn't fully understand. Make sure you download and backup your config file to a safe location off the NAS so if you ever have to do a reinstall for this exact reason it makes it a lot less painful.
