yeah that is a big problem these days with cell phone verification methods.

even email providers are doing the same thing.

can you use a friends or family members cell # ?

yeah but its easy enough to buy a burner phone / throw away phone. i believe there was a service available where you could send text messages from computer to cell phone, but if i remember correctly wasnt there also a service where you could have a virtual phone number using it on the internet and use that for verification. it was never an interest of mine so i never paid any attention to it at the time. i guess times have changed since sept 11, and the war on terror.

 

i always give out fake addresses all the time

social media and ssn/sin would be a red flag

also birthdates, I use something simple as fuck because they use that for account verification when lost pw or username

well the service i was thinking was decades ago so its now probably defunked

 

now its all VoIP stuff, so i doubt there is a free version of VoIP and if that even can receive texts, again I have never looked into VoIP telephone services because it has never interested me, but I heard great things for a home line service.

i mean, twitter enabled 2fa some days ago, you can bind your account to an authenticator that uses the standard method, like google's, and it's not requiring phone number anymore. they should do the same, if they find you suspecious, ask you to verify the 2fa code.

You can link your Discord account to your forum account, or you can link it to a Floatplane account, unless they got rid of linking=verification.

 

I have a phone but I don't have a SIM card, so I had to connect my discord account to this to make it work.

Yep, it's the easiest way to stop dickhead trolls using VPN's to fuck up the discord server for everyone.

 

 

I imagine it won't be long before every internet social media site follows suit so they can wipe their hands of responsibility for content people post.

but this isn't about the forum it's about discord.

and on discord you can also be a massive penishead verbally in real time which is different from recording a video and posting it here in the comments.

That actually fixes it, they should make it clearer that linking your discord makes it so you can actually use the server.

Discord is 13+ you can easily not have a phone at 13, and even as an adult I don't have a phone because it's 30$ a month for something I barely use, and even when I use it I could easily use google voice instead, which is free.

there are providers out there that do not have a monthly subscription, the ones i know of you buy a "pack" and it lasts for a year.
