Do you need a proper pc case ?

dgsddfgdfhgs

what would you prefer :

- a proper case

- a proper case with side panel off

- test bench / diy mount

if you avoid any proper case, you dont have to deal with any issue related to case fans/ noise , but the draw back is (only) dust

so far my build is on a test bench with lid & insect screen on every fan, mobo looks blurry due to dust lol

vrm temps are exceptionally well in my case with only fan from the tower cooler..

randomly found some pretty bad ass case but then why do I need one?

I opt for a proper chassis as I have pets.

I would like an open-air test bench, but because of the aforementioned pets, and the fact that I can tune my system's airflow to minimize dust buildup (my area is well known for being notoriously dusty - and currently the interior of my chassis is more dust free than my desk), proper enclosure it is for me. I remove my front and side panels during the summer months to help alleviate some of the extra heat.

Proper case. I can mount and display my build properly and at the same time, dust is a lower problem due to filters and stuff. and as mentioned above. i have pets too and its safer to have a closed system since no electrical contact is exposed.

For longevity? A proper case obviously. For dust filtering, grounding, aesthetic, etc etc.

If I were to change parts all the time(at least once a month), a test bench would be good enough.

As for a case with the side panel open.... Nah mate, just get a proper case without a silly side window that offers zero ventilation, so you can put stick a fan on that side panel instead. No risk of over heating. (Or get a case like the core V21 from Thermaltake, you can literally choose where the window goes... be it sides, top or even bottom if you don't case for it.)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 10 Pro

laying the gpu vertically on mobo actually feels savest for gpu imo

no need worrying any sagging / bends etc

I’ve had significantly less dust and dog fur build up after swapping over to an open bench. Dust is a bit of a problem where I live.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

Both. My normal PC’s live in cases. My test bench does not.

It’s usually not in my kitchen... but for whatever reason the last pic I have of it, it’s in the kitchen lol. I guess I pulled a linus and turned a kitchen into a PC building studio.

Personally i don't care either way. But since i have pets i have mine in cases.

Not so much for dust collection but more in relation to savety, you never know when one might decide to put their feet in the fan or start chomping on random cables.

i'd hate turning on my pc finding out i got a short because of this.

Proper case just because a proper case protects the system.  The open bench is very vulnerable to even the most minor of mishaps.

We live in the real world, full of dust and hazards (kids, pets, drunk roommates).

Ask me about the time my friend left the side panel on his case off which was near the edge of his desk, put a bowl of salsa down, his dog bumps the table hard and the tower falls on the bowl and gets Salsa all over his GPU, killing it.

He leaves his side panel on now.
