I still have a floppy drive, but I can't use it anymore, no more floppy connectors on the new boards. I also have floppy disk that's in RGB!
It comes in a 10pk that has red, green, blue, and other colors.

Back before they completely nixed the floppy drive in systems, I often wondered why they hadn't just moved the floppy to an internal USB (it was possible even back then) in order to drop the port from the motherboard.

I think it's because floppy drive are mostly used in a dos environment, USB isn't friendly with dos, so instead of going through that trouble, they decided not to go with it. There are internal USB ports on a motherboard, mostly found in workstation and servers, but there is no point because sometimes USB gives problems where you have to physically disconnect them, so having it on the inside will be a pain.

Yep.  Plus, the paperwork.

Want to see an officer or contractor face go pale.  Mention to them to do a TEMPEST package because of a big change to a network and client setup.  O boy, do their faces change fast.

The contracting system setup at times makes me smh.

 

When I was a mech troop on aircraft, we would look at the price of replacement parts and then think up all the stuff you could by with that money.  Our fav was when we replaced IDG, integrated drive generators.  Those buggers where pretty pricey.

Actually a nuke, even in the simplest inertial device, requires very precise conditions to function. Nuclear detonations aren't like conventional explosives where if you throw them at somthing hard enough they'll go off. They need such precise conditions that making them go off at all is really hard. It's a big part of why they haven't proliferated and no known non-state actor has come remotely close to building a functioning one.They just take too much specialised knowledge from too many seperate fields for anyone to build a functioning one on a whim.

Im just imaging that somewhere out there was a file cabinet with a giant floppy disk that had the most important data in the world (Hillary Clinton’s nudes) on it, how was this floppy secured? Where was it held? Was there a guy who’s job title was “holder of the floppy”?

 

If said dude was looking at such nudes, he was probably holding a floppy anyway. Might as well recognize the attempt with a title.

I have a USB floppy drive that I've been using lately (after hunting for quite a while for a box of floppies...) to play with an old 1998 Pentium 133 laptop I bought for nostalgic funsies

Still works great in Win10.
