Why do I have so much CPU usage if I fold only on GPUs? I don't have anything significant running in the background.

can you (try) to run two folding units on one GPU?

tried on vega 64 before, didn't work out.

Yes I do

folding on nvidia cards requires cpu power as well. basically, each card wants one core of your cpu.

amd cards don't need that, they use about 5% cpu per card or less, but they also have different ppd values/heat/noise/wtv (and Navi based cards aren't supported in folding atm I think)

Do you think getting that for a 5 year old be a little excessive? I was looking at it for them and wasn't sure. Also I'm sure with a little modification you could get that thing to fold for you :)

Yea I doubt a 5 year old will have the patience to bother with it. Granted, all kids are different but I'd do something like this at age closer to 10..

True, the kid lost interest in lego and took interest in cars so I was looking at something like this to try to get them re-interested in lego. It's a little late for their Birthday, but never late for Christmas, and Lego almost never goes on sale too...

Probably not, my 7 y/o wasnt bothered. and being Technics it is a lore more fiddly then the usual Lego so probably not as fun.

Lego do the Speed sets which are more Lege bricks then Technics

some 8 or so years ago when I was the kid who got gifted lego, there was a set that had 2 motors with remotes in it, the dinosaur was able to walk and make some terrible noise. the beauty of it was ofcourse the ability to just forget the regular build and create unrealistic cars that would later run around the house powered by the remote. So much fun!

I'm the type of Lego builder who builds and displays...

My son... builds and destroys and makes his own ... (I don't mind as he has his own Lego)

I'm a grown-ass man and that's how I Lego to this day. If I want to build and display, I'll get a freaking model (of which I also have many).

can't believe my eyes, I finally saw 1.3m estimated on the top card, the one utilized as the one for the monitors too. With chrome open it worked better than without. For some reason. Sucks I have to stop it now lol. I guess I'll just move the wu to the second card by removing the slot and adding it back later when I can :/

Alright, good news this morning!  I found a reference online for making sure Windows doesn't have the FAHcore21 process as low priority, so switched it to Normal before going to bed.  Checking status this morning shows my 1080 completed an 870k PPD WU overnight and started working on another one for 850k PPD.  They are both a P14220 WU which I haven't seen before (or at least recently) so I'm more inclined to believe it was just low-PPD WUs I was getting before that was causing my 1080 to sit around 650-670k PPD.  At least now I know it's not underperforming for some other reason (beside WUs which I can't do anything about).

Also, seems I fixed my 1070/1660Ti Linux machine too!  I previously had the 1070 in the top slot and the 1660 Ti in a lower slot. 1070 was consistently at 700-730k PPD, but the 1660 Ti was stuck around 580-600k PPD, which is low.  After swapping them around the 1660 Ti is now running at 860k and the 1070 is still at 750k.  I don't know if there's something about the 1660 Ti that was unhappy in the lower slot, or if by deleting the slots in the client, swapping cards, and re-adding them somehow "reset" something that was glitchy.

Also, removing the two CPU slots did not appear to affect PPD at all.  I lost the ~50k combined, but I think the GPUs were running faster as a result of freeing up the CPUs.  They were set to use 6/8 threads, but maybe that was still too much.  IDK, they are super inefficient anyways and not worth it (i7 2700k and 4790k)

Regardless, I went to bed sitting right at 2M PPD and now have it running at 2.5M estimated with just a small amount of shuffling.  Hopefully this rate keeps up!

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

A curious set of findings there. 8700K is giving me better results, but I wonder if pinging it to 100% usage is causing the GPUs to run slower in some way or another. But I'm about to have Junkitron join the melee, so perhaps I'll disable its processor (a pathetic A10-7850K) and see if that gets me better results than if it were working away.

Yea, I found one of the city sets but sadly by the time the parents got back to me on it I already sent the gift up. Guess I'll use the VIP card with free shipping option for Christmas and maybe drive the parents even more insane by getting something like this (they also have 2 cats)

They also like Minecraft too.

Had problems with cpu folding. Removing and adding it cpu slot back fixed the issue. It was giving these lines on log multiple times:
