I'd use it for folding since I have a few PCIe slots and lanes open but I do not think it is worth for you to send it to Serbia. 

The whole question of PCIe lane allocation and utilization is an interesting one.  The answer is platform and OS dependent. In general you can feed a card better on Linux than Windows. PCIe x1 mining risers will drop a fast cards PPD by 5-10% on Linux and over 30% on Windows. The generally accepted rule of thumb from the Hardware sub form at Folding form is fast cards (1080 Ti at the time of writing) need at least a PCIe3 x4 slot to be kept fed and you should have at least x8 for future-proofing.

 

If I we’re building again from the ground up and not on a tight budget I’d go with a mining chassis, a couple of 1000W+ power supplies and a x399 threadripper system using PCIe riser cables and M.2 to PCIe x16 adapters for seven cards off a 1920x. Yes, Chinese server motherboards and eBay bargains are fun to play with but I’d rather use off the shelf best bang components as I want these to run 24x7x365 and to not have to fuss with them.

 

I took a more gradual approach buying SLI-capable z370 boards and 650W power supplies as I found them on sale or open box and finding nice airy cases to put them in. I moved to x470 as I got into BOINC CPU crunching replacing the Pentium G5400s and 5500s with whatever Ryzen 5 or 7-series processor was on fire sale. Likewise I use M.2 NVMe or SATA drives rather than 2.5” SSDs as it’s just easier not to have to muck about with the SATA power and data cables and makes swapping boards into new chassis quick. I’ve since also moved to 750W power supplies rather than 650s due to the CPU loads and also to have more headroom for newer faster GPUs

 

The GPUs. I started with 1060s then doing math realized that the 2060s were a sweet spot in terms of value (PPD/W) . Now I’m leaning towards 2070 Supers at less than 1/2 the price of a 2080 Ti but more than 1/2 the performance.

What mobo/ chassis would actually allow you to use a 4x connection to each gpu and how many gpu's per system could you have?

x399 boards that support bifurcation allow splitting the x16 into x8/x8 or x4/x4/x4/x4 for quad NVMe cards - m.2 to PCIe risers is a possibility but with x399 and threadripper you can get several boards with 4 PCIe x8 off the CPU and 2 m.2 off the CPU and then use these ALI m.2 to PCIe x16 adapters. The m.2 is a real PCIe3 x4 electrically so there's minimal buffering to extend it to a traditional connector.
