Following the release of the huawei p30 pro with its 8mp 5x periscope lens, Oppo Is one upping it with its 13MP 10x Optical zoom Lens! 

 

Along with one of the fastest under-screen fingerprint reader to release.

So what was the mechanical zoom for the P30 Pro again?

You can’t hold a phone still enough to use zoom lenses. Pretty pointless unless you have a tripod at all times

Yeah i have a feeling it would need a good stabilising AI... and even then the images would have some afterimage when you zoom in.

I'd say it's part of a "not entirely necessary, but nice to have" sort of thing.

How I plan my builds -

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

its a matter of practicality. i could see myself using 5x. but 10x starts getting out of the range of usecases.

I totally see where you are coming from. The occasions that would would use it though would allow you to have double the optical zoom and double the zoom that wont loose detail over the 5x + digital. The advertised cost of the phone is also less than the P30 pro so its seems to be like a "oh this phone is cheaper, on par and has higher resolution 10X zoom" what the real life experience will be like is unknown outside of "tests" and "first looks", but on paper its just seems like a no brainier. The phone isnt even TARGETED at the Photographers with a Ridiculous price tag, its just... a "free" addition.  and comes with the 5G model too.

If there was no Huawwei Mate 20X, I would have gone for the Oppo Reno. It's a pleasure upgrading from big LCD screen to big OLED screen.

Maybe I'll buy the Oppo Reno too lol. I don't need 5g as I only use the wifi and don't have a subscription.
