Does my Powersupply support Ryzen Threadripper?

Hello everyone,

since the new Ryzen generation (3rd gen) will come out this year I was wondering if my Power supply could handle a Ryzen Threadripper 1920x and Vega 56 OC Combo

I currently have a 750 Corsair MX Powersupply

my other components would be

  1. WD Red 3TB
  2. Samsung 980 Evo 256 GB
  3. 2x 500gb Samsung Spinpoint Nano
  4. 120GB Random SSD

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x (Stock)                              RAM: 16 GB Samsung ram

GPU: 2080 Super                                                SSD: 256GB Samsung 980 Evo

You mean a grey label CX750M?

 

It should be alright, not 100% advisable but not any meaningful imminent danger.

Should be fine, but depends on how high you OC them. What does it have to do with 3rd gen Ryzen though?

I assume you mean RMx. If that's the case, then yes it will handle those parts pretty easily.

Whenever a new generation of processors is released the older gen will get cheaper because of poeple selling their old gen cpus and because theres a new one so the stores have to sell them cheaper

1920X is not a good gaming CPU though

well yes, but you're also not getting any of the improvements on new stuff. Unlike Intel, AMD isnt refreshing the same architecture over and over again.

Yeah I know that, but that doesn't factor into your question of whether the PSU will be enough for it I mean... it's regardless of how much it is.

I was asking to know if I'd also have to buy a new powersupply (probably a 1200 - 1500 Watt one)

Yes, I know, but it still doesn't matter what Ryzen 3rd gen is, as you are going with first gen.

Vega 56 uses about 200-300W (stock to overclocked range)

Why does Asus say that you need a 750 Watt PSU minimum? I think its weird that they would do that

Have no clue why, your PSU should handle the Vega 56 and the 1920X easily at stock, but you might run into problems if you overclock them both, I think you can only overclock one of them, or overclock them both slightly.

No, he can overclock them both to the max without problem on a good 750 W PSU and have ample of headroom even at full synthetic workloads / tests taxing both CPU/GPU at the same time.

I really doubt it, with how hungry the 1920X once overclocked he'll probably reach 600W on CPU and GPU alone, and the rest of the system would take an extra 100W (probably more) due to VRM inefficiency and the motherboard, the many other components connected to the motherboard, and that's not taking into account the peaks of power consumption, there's a possibility it might turn off.

nevermind, the 1920X actually takes a bit less according to Gamersnexus, he should be "okay"
