Why does the US ban Huawei but not Xiaomi?

Hi there, I know that the US is giving Huawei an incredibly hard time right now, and the EU is trying to ban Huawei under the pressure of the US. But why do other Chinese brands (that makes absolutely fantastic phones at a fraction of the price Apple charges) such as Xiaomi, Vivo Oppo Doogee Vernee, and other popular Chinese technology firms such as Alipay and Aliexpress flying pretty smoothly under the radar?

Its because of rumours/speculation of collaboration between huawei and the chinese government by passing on user data. 

There was also pressure to not allow huawei to have access to the internals of the upcoming 5g network for the same reasons.

 

This is not a new battle, previously intel has been blocked from sending xeon cpu's to the chinese millitary in order to make it harder to develop weaponry ect.

Similar thing with amd, but they ended up selling them the information to manufacture their own epyc cpu's instead.

That's exactly right! the Mi 8 literally looks like an iphone x replica but is selling like hotcakes in India and Europe, so why is Huawei being picked on so hard?

its funny u mentioned that,  right now, I am not living at my home in the US, I am on a little trip to Europe and huawei is litteraly king here, I mean, apple devices are like a status thing, but everyone has a huawei! and there knew p20 is a beast! I saw it in a normal elictronics store, I do see why its banned in US though, it has a curved screen edge, and a notch, both of these things I think have been patented by apple and Samsung and LG lol

Huawei also makes enterprise network appliances like switches, routers, ATM's which could be used by internet providers, companies, and.... the government as well I suppose? much more important than just "mobile phones" which is just what Xiaomi is known of especially, actually they also make routers, but just consumer products

They are among world leaders in mobile infrastructure equipment, something that providers use and something that in the end end users interact with no matter if they have Huawei, iPhone, Samsung or other smartphones or dumbphones.

 

So, if you want to spy on someone, it is better to spy from the point where you can spy all the users no matter which phone they use.

Huawei does a lot of core network infrastructure machinery, meanwhile XIAOMI is mostly end user device manufacturer.

Since if there is a possible compromise in the core infrastructure it may compromise other devices, meanwhile end user devices have less ability to compromise a large amount of people since only user of said devices would be compromised, meanwhile core networking appliances handles everything.
