Again, with no budget being mentioned, 1070.

He said cheapest, meaning he'll spend as much as he has to to get that experience and no more. You don't need to know the budget to give him that. And you're right, a 1070 is the minimum. 1060 won't really do that in AAA games (it'll be close, but not quite) and there's nothing between a 1060 and 1070.

I just upgraded my CPU to a Ryzen 2700x, but sadly I still have a old rx-460 which in some cases struggles with 1080p. I was wondering what would be the cheapest GPU to get into 1440p gaming for this setup?

The 2060 is coming out soon and it looks like that's going to offer some solid value and performance.

2060, a used 1080, or 1070ti minimums..

for Ultra settings.

980Ti or GTX1070 for Lowering Details which you can do without losing too much, as the clarity is still there..

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Used 1080 ti would probably be your best bet.

For 1440p? I run a 1070 at max details 1440p without any problem. A 1080 would be more future proof, but a 1080 Ti is for 4K right now.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

1080 ti is for 1440p 144hz, 1080 can only sustain around 80 fps in AAA games at 1440p.

1080 ti isn't do 4K Ultra in modern AAA titles at a consistent 60fps, I have a 1080 ti, I can speak from experience.

Resident Evil 2 Remake..  That demo that just dropped.

Maxed out...

I just saw my GTX1070 dip down to 70fps at 1080p at the lowest point... from an average of 90-100fps.

Overhead is usually good to have...

At 1440p this would be dipping under 60fps at times. Not my end of the world.. But is for some...

Id say 1080ti minimum. But also depends what type of FPS gamer you are. Along with settings.

Cheapest can be a lot of things. If you are talking within a $200 usd budget, that would mean a 1070.

Probably 2060. Maybe a used 1070 if you can find one under $250, but otherwise I'd go 2060 when it launches.

if you don't like used parts, then for 1440p 60hz either get a 1070 ti or rtx 2060. For 144hz a 2080 ti is recommended.

I'd like at least 60fps at 1440p mid to high settings (some times I'd be content with 45), and at least 80 at 1080p. I'm not planning on switching to 1440p in every game, I'd just like the option so I can decide between high FPS lower resolution, and lower resolution high FPS, depending on what I'm playing.

Yea your a 60fps gamer. Thus you can do that. Op didn’t mention what he wants nor his budget. Ridiculous.

Hold on, so you think that 144hz, is the "minimum"? Not the 60hz the vast majority of people use. He said "What is the cheapest GPU to get into 1440p with this setup" and you assume he's playing 144hz rather than the vastly more common 60hz?

Also a 1080ti/2080 can't do 1440p 144hz anyways in AAA games, so that card would be useless too. By your standards, he'd need a 2080ti. A 2080ti is the "minimum" by your standards. Ridiculous.
