在警方刑事打擊前，「BT天堂」已成為名副其實的國內「BT」第一站。2015年5月至2016年7月，袁某某通過收取廣告費用非法獲利140餘萬元。經遠程勘驗，BT天堂網站共有影視作品資源24737個，有效鏈接影視作品資源數達10873個。高峰時期該網站平均日均IP訪問量在60萬左右，日均PV瀏覽量在300萬左右。

(Before the police's arrest, "BT Heaven" was literally the biggest BT/torrent site in China. From 2015 May to 2016 July, Yuen illegally profited more than 1.4 million RMB by charging advertising fees. After inspection, BT Heaven has a total of 24,737 films and television works, and 10,873 effective links to films and television works. In peak period, the average daily IP traffic was around 600,000, and the daily page view was around 3 million.)

Personal thought:

The case is finally prosecuted... He was arrested back in 2016 Sept. I remember some of my friends panicked at that time when the site was suddenly shut down. At least we now know what happened to the site master.

I thought that China didn't care about copyright violations. Or, is it only violations of Western copyrights that China doesn't care about?

They only don't care when it brings in foreign exchange (? is that the term for money from other countries?) or protect local factories. They'd even make retarded judgments to "protect" their own when the foreign company is obviously right. Examples include Air Jordan shoe loses its trademark lawsuit to "Qiaodan" (Putonghua/Chinese translation/pronunciation of Jordan) even tho Qiaodan outright copied Air Jordan.

 

As for BT Heaven, they might have stepped on a nerve of someone in the Broadcasting Authority or someone high up in a TV company. If ppl can simply download TV series freely, TV companies will lose viewership and thus makes less from ads. This case might not be totally due to justice, but more on the profit side.

Tbh I am surprised the sentence is 3 years. I always thought China was particularly tough on crime.

Think of all the cameras and facial recognition technology they have in China. What do they do if you are wearing a mask? The obvious answer is identify you by other traits like the ones blurred out in this picture. So the short answer is yes.
