Reverse-Chronological Twitter Feed Returns As An Option

Luca Rallis

Twitter is offering users another escape hatch from its ranked timeline. The company said today that it will introduce a prominent new toggle in the app to switch from the ranked timeline to the original, reverse-chronological feed.

Definitely a welcome change from Twitter. I can stand this trend of social media platforms moving away from the reverse-chronological timeline. The only platform where I find it acceptable is Facebook.

The latest incarnation of the original Twitter feed can be accessed by tapping the cluster of small stars — the company calls it the “sparkle” and now so shall we all, forever — and switching to see the latest tweets. Over time, the company will learn your behavior. If you routinely switch to the latest tweets, Twitter will default you to them. This marks a change from the past, when the app would switch you back to the ranked timeline at unpredictable intervals.

The toggle will begin rolling out today on iOS and will come to other platforms in the coming weeks, the company said.

All we need now is the ability to edit tweets.

Finally! I'll have to find another reason to use an excuse for not using twitter.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

How does that even work. If it is time based then won't it move so fast that you can't see anyones tweet.

Why? What makes facebook special?

It's a timeline and they, as the name suggests, should be in time order not in whatever ever order an AI thinks will make one more likely to click.

I hope browser/desktop is one of those platforms this much needed feature comes to. Having to refresh the page 20-30 times to make Twitter stop skipping over several hours of tweets is ridiculously annoying.

So, sack the most logical listing of messages and then reintroduce it years later and you'll be all over the news as this big innovator. F**k me sideways...

I used to use Tweetdeck on my phone browser just because of this, glad they're fixing it now. Now if only they could fix the birthday ban thing ?

🙂

Twitter.

I am sorry, I do not know what Twitter is, nor do I wish to even give a fuck about it. But to make a useful comment on the chronological aspect,, I like to sort from cheap to expensive, from new to old. If its old to new then why does someone want to scroll down all the time.
