How many browser tabs do you have open right now?

bcredeur97

Honestly on common usage I rarely have more than 5, I'm the type of person who closes tabs I'm done with rather than stack them up.

I use the Bookmark features that web browser have. I know many don't know about it...

Doesn't do me much good when I have multiple items that require a sign on every single time. So atm I dedicate my IE to security tools and other work related items, then I use firefox for personal browsing, LTT, and researching stuff for work. I use IE for work stuff because some of the tools don't play nice with other browsers.

I create folders in bookmark sections and sort bookmarks.

So if I do research, say a school paper (when I was a student), I would bookmark all interested sources. This allowed me to not panic when a tab has been accidentally closed, and I quickly get my sources to past in Office Bibliography feature, and have Office auto-generate my work cited.

I average two or three tabs most of the time. If I'm researching something, I'll have more open, occasionally as many as a dozen. When working with multiple monitors, I've been known to have multiple browser windows open rather than have to frequently switch from one tab to another.

If I'm finished using the site on a tab but may want to refer back to it at a later date, I'll bookmark it to cut down on the number of tabs open at any one time to make keeping track of what's open easier. I have a huge collection of bookmarks.

My bookmarks are already full. Adding something to there is a surefire way to never find it again whithin the thousands upon thousands upon thousands of bookmarks I keep. At least 30% of them must lead to dead sites, by now.

If only there was a convenient way to save half a million interesting links and then find them again, when you remember they have to exist somewhere in there.

Are you just saving every single websites you go to in your bookmarks or what... Do you not organise them in folders based on what they are about?

And there's a Search feature on Vivaldi that can not only look the site up, but if you've entered a "Description" for said website when adding it to your bookmarks it will search through those as well, making it easier to find a specific website.

I've been using the Internet for about 20 years, so there was plenty of time. They are as sorted as they get, but folders will only do so much once you have a couple hundred of them. Every browser has a search feature and Vivaldi was dead on arrival because it uses Chrome under the hood. Search also only does so much, once you forget the site exists and there would always be a search engine to help you out on that if you know what you are looking for. Setting up a description introduces friction and won't scale to the thousands of bookmarks I have. Also doesn't help once you forgot the site exists.

What helps with remembering a site exists is keeping it open as a tab, though. Not by much, but it's better then the graveyard that are bookmarks. If only there was a convenient way to advertise to myself.

Do you think that you can correlate how messy someone’s desktop is with the avg number of tabs they usually have open?

messy desktop, tons of tabs with multiple windows.. basically always.

Right now, two: this thread and New LTT Activity. I'll close the thread's tab once I post this and move on to the next thread of interest to me and open it in another tab.
