Defyant's Light Blade Scratch Build RGB case.

Defyant

Defyant's Light Blade

I wanted some thing nicer than stock cases for my modding workshop and some thing that would really show off custom RGB lighting.

The inspiration for the style of this mod came from  InsolentGnomes amazing Deep blue (formerly G-Frame) if you havn't seen his mod take the time to check it out :)

As you can tell by the title, This will be a scratch built from Acrylic custom air cooled case , built around my existing hardware with the addition of some new Corsair 140mm LL's for flow and 120 LL's on CPU cooling duties with Corsairs RGB light strips doing most of the RGB work on the front and sides. With iCue running all the disco.

Parts List as this is a Workshop PC are modest.

Asus Strix 270i

16G DDR4 2800

2 x M.2 120/240

GPU TBA

Intel 6700

SFX700W Silverstone PSU

HSF Custom Hyper 212

Cable Mod Pro Carbon Cables

Corsair Lighting Node Pro and Hub

2 x Corsair LL-140 Fans

2 x Corsair LL-120 Fans

4 x Corsair RGB Addressable strips

As you can see from the first pic, The PC's that bookend my monitors are boring as hell, Even tho they are fully modded Fractal Nano S cases. The new Light Blade PC will completely change this.

*************** Latest Update Pics **********

The mod starts with an inner housing cut from diffused plex.  This was chosen for it's ability to show diffused RGB and match the Blades of the Corsair LL Fans.

All the cuts were done using a router to the 4 sections then glued using Weldon.

IMG_20180926_065113-L.jpg

As you can see by the holes this case will get plenty of air.

IMG_20180926_065110-L.jpg

A panel is made for the fans to attach too rather than drill holes thru the front of the case. This panel will be later Box'd to become a housing for the fans.

IMG_20180926_065435-L.jpg

IMG_20180926_065442-L.jpg

This will be 1 of 2 cases that will be build, The other a water cooled case so it is designed to fit a 280mm AIO up top.

Next is to cut the Blades part of this case mod.

In all there will be a total of 9 Blades of white plex. White chosen for the contrast on the diffused housing.

The first blade is cut by hand using a router. Then 9 more are cut ( as to keep a template) using the router to profile the original.
This keeps all 10 blades close to identical.

IMG_20180906_160923-L.jpg

Next is to measure and cut out the centres. Again profiled to get near exact copies.

The Blades can now be Weldon glued direct to the housing . Weldon Acrylic Glue is extremely strong and would take a lot to snap one of these blades off.

IMG_20180929_175609-L.jpg

Ive slipped a tinted window into the top for contrast but this will be changed to clear.

IMG_20180929_181149-L.jpg

A small concealed power switch is added to the underside of the case.

IMG_20180930_110246-L.jpg

And to finish off the Blades are trimmed at the rear.

The  Side Windows for this case are unique in their shape. Conventional square shaped sides would not work for this case.

The Clear plex used is 6mm thick making these very rigid and heavy.

IMG_20181001_144524-L.jpg

To hold the panels in place ive decided to use a ledge and magnet style design.

IMG_20181001_155529-L.jpg

IMG_20181001_165828-L.jpg

You can see that with these on all 4 corners the side panel cannot move twist or turn.... How ever it could fall off !

The rear earth magnet make sure this dosn't happen.

Man this is just too cool. very good job with this scratch build! would be cool if you made this case to sell, like a DIY case that you have to assemble yourself :)

The Corsair Lighting Pro LED strips will need to run along the floor and up the front of the case.

Ive added some pass through holes to allow the Strips to be daisy chained and made a cover panel to hide them.

Sorry for the lack of updates, So much is going on with this mod and workshop upgrades that i'm barely keeping ahead of  my updates here and on bittech.

The next update for this mod will be the MB bracket mounting system.

Trying to keep this as simple as possible.  Yet have a mounting system that's strong and practical.

To keep it strong ive gone with 12mm thick clear acrylic.

IMG_20181112_200055-L.jpg

To keep the system practical ive weldon glued them into place.  This also leave plenty of room for the PSU and cable routing.

Moving onto PSU cover and front Fan housing

These will be of slightly thinner white acrylic and will also have a light feature  as well as an air dam to direct air from the bottom fan to where its needed most.

The PSU cover  is an unconventional shape, but as you will see it's designed to have function over form. Cut outs along the lower sides are added and a diffused strips are put into place on both sides.

IMG_20181128_204644-L.jpg

IMG_20181128_204909-L.jpg

The front fan housing is made from the same white acrylic and bent to shape.

IMG_20181114_185458-L.jpg

IMG_20181114_204503-L.jpg

The 2 units can be installed into the case.

IMG_20181118_131601-L.jpg

And tested with some RGB

IMG_20181118_155511-L.jpg

IMG_20181118_155837-L.jpg

Then it's time to fire up the iCue software and test the front of the case as well

IMG_20181117_215818-L.jpg

The effects and colours are endless thanks to the iCue software

A  few last minute touches before this goes to HIN's this weekend.

Ive added a good old base to the case, this should help to protect the bottom blades from damage while on show.

IMG_20181212_200026-XL.jpg

kinda gives it a weird hover boat effect.... but works well as a protective base.

You prolly already spotted the new light blade on the bottom right :)

So on it goes and we start the RGB flood with some pretty pink :D
