I think the only option is to buy a used one.

There are units running after about 10 years, so it will be fine for a while.

head off to ebay/criagslist/whatever and see if there's any new PS3s for sale. you can also try seeing if some nearby brick-and-mortar store has some old stock they wanna get rid of. but really, a used PS3 will work just as well as a new one.

Best would be a new PS3 with no hard drive or a very shitty one that I could just throw away and replace it with my awesome SSD

Don't bother. It was found out the PS4 connects the HDD using a SATA to USB converter. It's likely the PS3 does the same.

Used ones are fine. If you want a little more peace of mind, by a refurb with a warranty. My recommendation is to get a late model slim PS3 (not super slim). They tend to have the best combo of build quality, thermals, and power usage. I have two of them. I have one from the very tail end of Slim production (a CECH-300XX model) and it's great. I have a slightly earlier one (a CECH-25XX model) that still has illuminated buttons. I'm not as keen on that one. It works fine but the fan is noisy. I put a new fan in it that's more balanced but it still has a vibration noise. I actually have the fan installed with no screws but adhesive foam pads so it mitigates the vibration. Still not as quiet as my later one. To be fair, I bought the late one new in 2012 and bought the earlier one used in 2017.

ALSO, performance wise, an SSD does almost nothing. You get SLIGHTLY faster load times. My late model one has a 250GB Samsung 840 Evo while my earlier one still has its original hard drive. I tested a few games and saw maybe a couple of seconds difference in load times. It's not the drastic difference you see on a PC. If you are a person that likes to have a ton of games installed all at once, your money is better spent on a higher capacity hard drive. Or if you are like me, you already have 8 or 9 hard drives or SSDs laying around and you just throw in whatever's handy.

Sony has discontinued to make PS3's so if you want to buy new you will need to find a collector or something

idk tbh

The only thing is some smaller shop somewhere in the boonies.

But it is rather unlikely that you will find one.

Especially since there is something like the Internets and selling Plattforms where even those guys can sell their stuff online...

The only advice I have is that you ought to get the Slim or Super Slim model. I think the major difference between the slims is slot loaded vs manual. Probably various HDD sizes on both. The original "fat" design is more prone to failure. At least the earlier versions, but I don't know the details of when the overheating issues got fixed.

I've seen on eBay, for example, people who refurb "fat" models with better thermal paste and such. So maybe those are ok if you can find those in your area. Probably more pricey though due to the extra labor these models would have.

Same... I have an OG PS1, PS2, and PS3. All have worked without issue. Though I keep them in a smoke free house, clean, and well ventilated.

My home is similar but all three of my OG PS1-3 all have issues... I've only ever had one PS1, the original, and the disc drive was failing. The lens rails or something was worn out on one side, so it played better upside down. Not sure if it still works today. Since I just play PS1 games on PS2 and later PS3.

My fat PS2 is fine except for the disc drive again. I guess it's the lens rails again since it works fine standing vertical but not horizontal. And similarly my fat PS3 disc drive fails. Didn't read anything at all so not sure what's wrong with it. I had Sony fix it post warranty once for $$$ and quit the second time the drive failed and went slim. Could still play digital games though.

I guess this just says my brothers and I gamed way too much and keep wearing out our drives.

Depends what model you are talking about.

The old FAT ones are said to be unreliable, even the newest 80GB Model w/o PS2 Compatibility.

The Slim and Super Slim however are said to be very reliable.

The Super Slim is said to have a louder Drive but comes with a 500GB Drive out of the Box. And you don't need much more than 500GB, maybe 1TB as most games are very small and under 10GB.

While with PS4 most games are way over 10GB...

And also I have to say that backuping your PS3 is really garbage, because it only allows one Option: Everything. Including the Games. Over USB 2.0...

I can say something about Slim -> Super Slim in a couple of hours, if I'm lucky, but probably it will be Monday. Because I bought a Super Slim in addition to my Slim...

Well, isn't it said that Gamestop to do some real shady stuff??

BUT, it doesn't sem they are in Hungary anyway...

http://www.gamestop.eu

And for most people in Europe its not easy to go to that shop either because they are only in big citys...

As for me, I have to drive ~100km, pay for parking in a parking garage (expensive). And Gas is very expensive here, like 1,40€ per Litre...

So in the End I end up buying the stuff I want in the Playstation or Steam Store.
