Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 100k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

26 minutes ago, Drak3 said:

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Hi all. Thinking about importing a car sometime in the next year or so and have found 4 cars for sale that I like.

They are as follows:

1996 SAAB 9000 CSE (around £555/$710 US/$945 canadian)
1989 Ford Sierra XR6 (around £555/$710 US/$945 canadian)
1971 VW Beetle 1600 (around £830/$1065 US/$1415 canadian)
1984 Ford Cortina Pickup/Bakkie (around £665/$855 US/$1131 canadian)

I can provide pictures if needed.

I'm stuck on what to buy.

I don't necessarily need it to be a good daily (although that would be nice), I'm just looking for a project car that'll keep me occupied when I have nothing else to do.

Which one would you buy?

Thanks in advance :)

We have an abundance of them and we dont have stupid markups. If you spec it yourself youre looking at like 35k for a GT but if you get one thats already a physical car you can save so much

Yeah, I dunno why you would build one though. One trim level. I heard rumors they were gonna make one off the LX trim level for this year, but I guess that didn't happen.

I do wish you could get the touring lights on the Si. They are a lot better than the standard projector beams.

Can you guys get those nice Cosworth Escorts? They intrigued me but weren't really a USA car.

Yep, but they do go for quite a bit (usually around £20k-£50k).

IIRC there are already a few in the US.

They don't intrigue me enough to buy one for myself lol. I know the engine is used in a series of open wheel racing here in the USA, one of our customers has a car with the Ford Cosworth 4cyl in it.

Yeah that's cause it burns at basically 6.5:1 instead of 9:1 like ethanol or 14:1 like gas.

No, they were export only cars. Some have been imported obviously. Ken Block has a few.

Not a cossie but my favorite Escort by far.

These are Cosworths. He bought two simply to use one originally to test different liveries lmao. The first one caught fire in a stage rally though, burnt to a crisp.

The original 1.3 liter car (chassis code AE532) had an EPA highway mileage rating of 52 miles per U.S. gallon (4.5 l/100 km; 62 mpg‑imp)[2] in 1984 and was reported to often achieve over 70 miles per U.S. gallon (3.4 l/100 km; 84 mpg‑imp) in favorable driving conditions. The later 1.5 liter American-market CRX HF (high fuel economy) model (chassis codes EC1 and AF) could also reliably achieve very good gas mileage, more than a decade before gas-electric hybrids appeared on the market, and at no price premium over the base model; the 1.5 liter is rated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (under the new rating system) at 42 miles per U.S. gallon (5.6 l/100 km; 50 mpg‑imp) city and 51 miles per U.S. gallon (4.6 l/100 km; 61 mpg‑imp) highway.

Not to quote wikipedia, but yeah. Those are basically 250CC motorcycle numbers.

Yeah, I dunno why you would build one though. One trim level. I heard rumors they were gonna make one off the LX trim level for this year, but I guess that didn't happen.

I do wish you could get the touring lights on the Si. They are a lot better than the standard projector beams.

Do you only get the base type r over there? We get that or the Type R GT which just has options youd actually want on it rather than nothing
