Honestly: No wireless charging is the one thing that puts me off.

 

I don't think i can get back to plugging my phone in, after almost 3 years of not doing that at all. Not even sure i remember where that cable is at all. Never thought id get used to this so badly, but i am. Just laying the phone down on my desk and never leaving house without a full 100% charge is so damn convenient.

You mean the cable that is used to power the wireless charger? Until the S8 they have used the same charger the phones used, now its all type-c. 

 

I like wireless charging but its def no make or break for me.

Is anyone else getting really sick of companies talking about the amount of the absence of the thing they're measuring rather than just the thing itself?  Please, it's "mm thick", not "mm thin".  I don't care if you think it sounds more stylish, or gives an impression it's really thin, just speak normally.  And weight doesn't even really need a word to go with it... "1kg heavy" is totally unnecessary but "1kg light" just sounds stupid.  How about "1 kg"?  Products only have 1 mass value... the reason you need to say "thick" for the measurement is to distinguish from screen size, height, width, etc.

 

I mean, really, we don't say "I'm 6ft short", or "that gap is 5 ft narrow" -_-

the new pixels are as interesting as the new iphones, by that i mean they are not interesting in the slightest, they offer nothing new or special, and p**sing £900 for a 128gb XL2, i'd rather just pay the £50 more for a 256gb iP8+ and get better update support.

they'd be more interesting if they put the 18:9 display on the non-XL version and finally gone higher than 1080p, which has been standard for 4 nearly 5 years now.

pixel book looks nice, the rest are a total nope for me though

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Actually the AI approach definitly is most interesting.

What theya said on stage is pretty true: All Smartphones are the same, from a hardware point of view. The differences are minimal.

 

That being said: I doubt anyone but geeks really understand what google is doing here with the software and AI. Will be a few years untill everyone expects these features as a must have.

Well, I guess I'll keep using my S6 Edge for another couple of months...  Would have been interested in the Pixel if it still had a headphone jack at least, but not having that is kind of a non-starter for me.  I'm really disappointed in the removal considering I don't think there has been a big upsurge in people saying 'Please take away my headphone jack to justify buying brand new wireless headsets'.  Just seems like they are using it as a gimmick to say their product is as good as an iPhone. :(

Once again Google decided to fuck Norwegians hard by not making it available. Same as the last Pixel. So annoying...

 

Looking forward to see battery life on this though.

It will be interesting to see how it holds in the real world,but for the specs.

Pixel 2 has got 2700mAh,A little bit disappointing IMO.

Pixel 2 XL has got 3520 mAh.

This was Google's last chance... I have been patient, and accepted that we in Scandinavia never got the Nexus Player, the Pixel C or the first Pixel phone because I thought: Next time, we'll get it.

 

But we didn't.

 

I love the Nexus phones, because of the stock android and Google keeping the phones updated (compared to other brands...). But seeing Google stopped caring about worldwide availability, my Nexus 5X will be replaced by an iPhone. 

 

Yes I could import it from the UK or Germany, but it's a matter of principle now. 

 

Goodbye android, you're dead to me (except for Android TV on my Nvidia Shield)

Lol people gave Apple shit for the EarPods and no one blinks at the pixel buds which cost the same. Not saying the EarPods are good as hey look pretty stupid and probably sound bad for $159

the biggest problem with the AirPods is the fact that they're made of the same crappy plastic as the EarPods. They burn the inside of my ear every time I adjust them, and they usually leave a rash (luckily I've only been subjected to them three times.) They SUCK.

My opinion - EVERYBODY is complaining about the removal of headphone jacks in popular phones. But, it was inevitable! Apple really did have the courage to rip it out, because now we actually have to change to Bluetooth or USB-C headphones, else we risk ruining our USB-C ports by using a dongle ten times a day. Not optimal, but it's one less thing to break IMO. Apple set the ball in motion, and there's no stopping it. Phones like the LG V30 will probably be some of the last flagships with headphone jacks. I doubt Samsung will be putting one on the S9/S9+. Maybe the Note 9 will have one.

 

I am very disappointed by the lack of wireless charging. I was considering this or the OnePlus 5, and neither have wireless charging, so it's not that bad. But come on, they already have the glass strip! Why not just make the whole thing glass? Given how tiny wireless charging add-on strips are, they can't be that big. Google is just slowing progress down.

 

GIANT bezels on the 5-inch Pixel astonish me. Even my budget Honor 5x has smaller bezels. I feel that there is no excuse for it. Everybody's new phones are either getting the tall screen treatment, or they're getting tiny bezels. The lack of both is, again, just slowing down progress.

 

All that said, I still really want one. Stock Android is so good, I want this over the Galaxy S8. Google Assistant is great for menial tasks, and the Pixel 2 is giving it so much more functionality. It has a great camera and good performance, but that's expected from a $650 phone. The fake bokeh effect hasn't really been tested yet, so I'll wait for reviews. Just looking at all the stuff it can do gives me phone lust. And they've already promised new Androids until 2020, AKA way better than Samsung or any other Android manufacturer.

 

And guys, quit asking for dream phones from Google. You're never going to get a Micro-SD card slot, ever. As far as I know, they've never had them? Even the Nexus 4. The headphone jack isn't coming back, that's just how phones will be soon. Shure released a Bluetooth cable for the SE series, so I can turn my great earbuds into great Bluetooth earbuds. Not worried. 

 

EDIT- It really seems like Google is as ashamed of the bezels on the 5-inch Pixel 2 as we are. They never show the front of the phone in marketing, only the back. If they ever show a screen, it's the XL's. It's even hard to find on their site, you have to specifically visit the Pixel 2 page and manually choose the regular model (default chosen is the XL).

I think because people came to accept that AirPods are a thing, and while aren't a great value for the dollar, are a very pleasant experience. It becomes much more forgivable when Google does it because Apple did it and it didn't turn out to be a totally garbage product.

 

That said, though, the Pixel Buds do not look even remotely enticing over Apple's already established AirPods.

I am really sad to see the headphone jack go, as I just bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 558s. I love the all Aluminum build of my 6p with its nice and loud dual front facing speakers. It seems like every year they want to take more from the audio portion, one year it is a front speaker, now it is the headphone jack.

 

I wouldn't have as much of an issue except I am on Google Fi, so this is kind of it for my upgrade path. All I really want is my 6p with slimmer bezels, new soc, and a new camera.

But the Pixel 2 XL is cheaper.. at least $50 cheaper than the Note 8 and definitely $150 cheaper than the iPhone X.
