Why does Reddit hate furries so much?

H0R53
Go to solution Solved by Tsuki,

its not just reddit. there is a global hatred on furries.

there are a few that are flamboyently outspoken and annoy the fuck out of everybody else. it gives the entire group a bad name.

I made a few posts across reddit, some that had furry content, like a Fallout NV screenshot with the Vulpine race installed, or a Fallout 4 screenshot with the Khajiit from Skyrim converted.

I got attacked simply for being a furry.

I got death threats (which were reported), people made remarks about my sexuality, and went so far as to include comments about bestiality. A lot of people were flat out rude and plain mean about it.

What the fresh fuck is wrong with people? The LTT forums don't act like this because if they did 50% of our members would be instabanned.

I get that Reddit is a larger place but damn, don't people have common decency?

Nope. A ton of people are assholes, this manifests on the internet where they're anonymous. Besides, Reddit is not a good place for a lot of things, it's echo chambers upon echo chambers.

Basically, everyone assumes the wrong thing from the title. Just don't make the... well, I guess you can call it a status, publicly known :P Especially on a place such as Reddit and/or similar message boards. People tend to jump to conclusions, and with furries, they do so a lot more.

I don't know? Maybe because there's furry porn, there's freaks who wear nappies and call it crinkling, and more disturbing things. You have events like Rainfurrest, and the community as a whole doesn't seem to condemn the activities taking place, so of course you're going to get shit online, especially on a place like Reddit just for even falling under the same banner as these people. Sure, it's generalising, but stereotypes have a basis in reality.

If you didn't know about the furry community and you watched this, wouldn't you think the same as the community as a whole?

What do they know of England, who only England know?

-snip-

It's funny because the furries who didn't attend that event and knew what was going on have the same idea as everyone else. Pretty much everyone hated what they did there, and they just added to the bad reputation that the community already had.

Unfortunately that's simply how the world works; it is fundamental human nature to dislike and even attack that which is considered to be 'different'. Just another reason that I don't like or trust people.

Honestly though, life is far too short to be pissed away worrying about what other people think of you... They are just not that important and therefore don't really matter. Leave them to their small lives and their constrained horizons.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

They have the room to be salty, and people on plebbit try to be all edgy and cool like those guys on 4chan, but just fall flat on their face while trying and look like a worse version of the YouTube comments.

It's more like disappointment really. Disappointment in the human species... Based on a lifetime of first hand experience. We should be able to do better.

Disappointment about what? That people take creative liberties with expressing themselves?

Not just Reddit

Considering the Internet is about 35% furries that statement is statistically inaccurate.

Seeing the, seemingly large, amount of people online with depression who hate themselves... I support that number.

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD

Not even remotely true. over 45% of the people in the world have working access to the internet, that would make 16% of the entire world "furries."

Also, it's because you people do very weird things... how is that not self apparent?

lots, and lots, of people dislike furries. i dont LIKE them, but i dont hate them either. i see it as stupid generally but i can accept it as a thing that happens, like religion. most of the internet hate them because they find it stupid beyond belif. Most people dont see any good in it at all and find it extremely strange, most to a stronger degree then me.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

The furry fandom is a subculture interested in fictional anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics. Examples of anthropomorphic attributes include exhibiting human intelligence and facial expressions, the ability to speak, walk on two legs, and wear clothes.

"You people"

The "you people" you're referring to are a very small part of the furry population.

Kenket is the artist.

Personally, I just don't care about what people say to me about it, but I rarely make it public unless I know some others are in whatever group I'm in e.g Discord. I use this picture on here because it's subtle and just looks like traditional art that everyone can enjoy without realise that it comes from that community. Plus, it looks snarky and I like either being snarky or snarky things.

Wasn't talking about you, was just trying to 'joke'. But you see this with a lot of fandoms and such, people hating on it (from the 'outside'), because hating on a specific thing is the norm and being part of that group is socially not accepted.

the majority of humans are judgemental, they are racist, greedy  and selfish. We may not think it us but all of us are like that. So race, religion and various other differences are capitalised on as much as possible. The fact that trump got elected and that the FCC is trying to confuse others in order to get rid of net neutrality is simply proof of that.

So reddit being an open discussion also shows how people are mostly.

I think furries make good house pets :P . No reason to hate them.

Yep, Kenket's pretty good too.

I change my avatar every now and then.

I wouldn't exactly say I'm "proud" to be a furry but it's a fandom I enjoy with tons of creative outlets.

The part of the fandom that @SpaceNugget was referring to is a part that most of the general fandom despises, they tarnish the fandom's image. These are the people who dress up and have sex, those who draw excessive amounts of pornography, and the cringy "nuzzles XD" people.

No you've totally missed the point I am afraid. The target of the disappointment is directed at human nature - the nature to hate what's different or the minority. I was attempting to sympathise with you but it appears that you are simply angry and frustrated. Moreover you seem to be venting this anger and frustration at anything or anyone in your path.

It's easy to see why you were targeted now.

animated, talking animals. big diffrace to people running around in fursuits, haveing sex with other people in fursuits and so on. the art is then connected to that culture and therefor hated aswell. its quite diffrent from disneys animation style aswell, being close to manga/anime with its big eyes and exadurated character
