What is your hardware quirk?

TheHogSmasher

Since I installed my new RX 480 NITRO...

- When the PC is booting, the fans spin 100% for a split second. Don't know why.

- After a period of time when I'm AFK (sitting on the desktop, not doing anything) my display turns off even though all of the Windows autosleep settings are turned off.

My headset is just one big mess, it has a beeping noise on the right, sometimes the left cup doesn't give sound and it's just.. SHIT.

Other than that I don't really have any issues with any of my hardware. Well, my mouse sometimes kinda .. lags or skips, but that is likely due to dust inside and is fixed by using a damp q tip on the laser.

The 100% fan speed is normal, it's the delay while it loads up. Since I installed my 970, it took a little longer.

Really? Interesting, didn't know that. My old 390 didn't do it, but whatever...

My 970 annoys me because it displays a nvidia BIOS version screen, before handing over to the BIOS, which means the fan speed jumps to 100% to start with, booting takes longer.

I have a laptop where if a USB hub is plugged in it won't boot at all, even when you unplug it while it's checking the hardware. You have to unplug the USB hub while the laptop is off.

Brah, do you even Java?

Since the start of the year, I have downloaded 2.4TB of files. Which is quite entertaining when I have 1.25TB of storage... It's probably killing my SSD.

funny enough, my intel 520 (from 2013, which has ~7 OS installs) has only 16tb nand writes.

I have an SSHD as well, but as my OS is on my SSD, all of my temporary internet files go on there. I don't know how many NAND writes though.

I also forgot, if I clean my monitor (it's brand new Dell 23.8" 1920x1080), one pixel will just stay magenta until I restart Windows, even if I tell the monitor to run pixel persistence clean option, and tell windows to sleep/hibernate/goto lock screen it'll still be their until I restart or shut down the computer.

my Lumia 950 only shows up on USB 2.0 ports, when connected to 3.0 it shows as unknown device.

The power brick from my PG278Q, now used for my laptop, stops working as soon as I turn off the laptop (and the battery is charged). I have to remove the power brick from the wall socket and wait to get it to work again.

One of my USB 3.0 ports on my motherboard randomly makes windows play disconnect/connect sounds whenever there is anything in it, the devices in the port work fine.

I have to replug the microphone in my front panel to get the driver (and thus Skype) working again.

I used to use a harddrive that "usually works when you boot the system" as a temporary drive (page file, TEMP folder). The drive always spinned perfectly fine but the data connection didn't work, rebooting fixed it sometimes. The drive started to fail more frequently, annoying me so I retired it.

lies! you've not tried everything...you forgot the most important thing which is getting a new laptop...

Anyway, for me, every 6 months, the sensor of my mice gets clogged with dust so...it stops tracking...

Solder to where it attached to the motherboard. Been there, done that. You need a magnifying glass, a steady hand, a soldering iron, and you need to have a self hatred to do something that painful.

Trust me, that wouldn't have worked. If I still had the laptop I would send you a picture. It really is a miracle how horribly designed that laptop was lol.

Nope, the wire wasn't even an inch long and it was soldered right to the (exposed) pcb. The only option was to literally replace the motherboard, just to have a power button.

A conductive pen, some hot glue, a thin wire. That's how I used to fix ribbon cables many years ago.

My (old, now probably recycled) laptop will power on if you tap hard on the case next to the charging socket (when it isnt charging, this dosen't work when it is charging) and my tv-decoder wont output to hdmi after being unplugged if you dont touch the case with the metal exterior of the connector on the cable while the decoder is turning on. (This is really weird but it is probably because i have a cheap ass tv and the cheapest decoder that the tv company offered)
