So I got an e8400 to 3.699ghz on a tiny air cooler (far smaller than stock) but any higher and the machine does not detect HDDs. What do? It was at least able to post at much higher clocks

they shouldn't be linked, :( so idk why it wont detect the hdd over that speed

I'm a little disappointed because my q6700 was only able to get 3.5ghz when I was hoping for 3.7Ghz.  How accurate is CPU-z's core voltage?  Because if CPU-z is correct I'm getting some massive vdroop.

Q6700 are not as good as Q6600 normally :( cpuz voltage is normally accurate

Ebay my friend! I recently got a good score on a P45 board and if you know what to look for you can find some great deals :)

ok your cooler is fine and you overclock seems to have worked ok too. your ram is running very very slow (like ddr1 speed). can you open the spd tab as well please? what are the temps like when its under full load?

The other two sticks are from Komputerbay, and they are 800MHz, 2gb each stick

wow those 2gb stick are really bad :P i think if you do 2-2.1v on the ram and try them at 800ish mhz 5-5-5-18. not sure why your cb score is the same as stock.

Anyone have any luck pad modding a E4600 C2D up to 1066 FSB from 800 in an older Dell Optiplex without having to mod for a voltage increase too?

More specifically a 330 with KP561 Board/G31 Express Chipset (ICH7R).

Some people beg to differ. @Bubblewhale thinks a Q66000 is worse than an 8320.

Well i got a 680i board now, just waiting for my Q6600 to arrive but my E6600 is somewhat close to my 8320 at single threaded...

lmao i posted that almost 2 years ago why did u respond now lol

but i think i need to run another cinebench test on my pc. right now the cpu is stock, no oc (stupid board is real unstable with oc), and voltages stock as well. but maybe i'll try overclocking this puppy again. it needs a bit of a boost.

Just got a 680i LT board a few days ago, so why not OC my E6600.

My board is probably on crack, can't hold OC for some reason unless i shut off all power.

my board also had the issue of not holding oc, till i found out some jumper was preventing it. but for some reason i can't up the voltage without getting a blank screen. that is quite annoying. but some day i'll attempt another overclock and see if i can get 3ghz out of this cpu. because i know for a fact i won't be getting a new comptuer for a while.

If only my H100i supported 775 socket out of the box, then I'd pair it with my G2 850W and try to aim for 4GHZ+...

i'm still stuck on a tower air cooler that i don't want to swap out of because it's very cramped inside my case and 2 of my screws are inaccessible without removing the psu, which barely fits through its designated place. its too much hassle for just one stupid cooler.

I'm thinking about getting a 212 Evo to replace the cooler I'm currently using. I'm just using a Pentium D stock cooler which is like rated twice of the E6600 TDP.

i have a tall thermalright tower cooler with 1 120mm fan in push i believe. i couldn't use the stock cooler because it has holes for aftermarket coolers to screw into, so they're too small for the prongs of the stock cooler to fit in. i'm happy that i won't have to use a stock cooler ever, but i'm worried it might be too small to mount a different cooler.

I'm just using a washer setup with the stock cooler, it works fine and temps are under 50C.
