LGA775 Core2Duo, Core2Quad OVERCLOCKING guide

https://usb.brando.com/socket-478-to-775-cpu-transfer-card_p00642c0046d015.html

Looks really dodgy but it's being sold in multiple websites and this is the only one that has it in stock

Support Celeron/Pentium 4 in Northwood or Prescott core

It is for the old desktop socket 478. None of the Core Duo/Core 2 Duo line will work. Though if I could only find an adapter that works with Celeron M380>LGA775....

rather a faster cpu  myself considering $90 is the kind of money you can spend on a p45 board but if you must :P

Considering the fact that that's 90 AUD and that translates to £70~ incl. shipping and such (it comes with a cooler) + £5~ for the RAM I'd consider it alright :P

Yeah, that was resolved on the previous page in the last couple of posts :P

On the plus side though, plenty of CPU that you could use: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=socket%20478&_dcat=175673&Number%2520of%2520Cores=Single&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

hey guys , so im gonna upgrade my brother PC , currently he has a Pentium E2160 1.8ghz OC to 2.8 , Gigabyte G31 mobo , EVGA 750 B2 ( my old powersupply) , 2gb ram , and a gtx580 my mum gave me that she found in a skip lol

so im going to be getting a quad core for him , most likely a Q8200 , and also 4gb of ram ( 800mhz ? ) so that he can play newer game alot more easily

i also found a pretty beefy cooler to go on the q8200 in a pre-built compaq PC ( see below )

so my question is , do you guys think i could get mor eperformance out of the q8200 with this selection of parts ?

thanks in advance :)

The G31 mobo will be a bit stressed but I'm sure you could do something (~20%) with it, nice find on that 580- I've been hunting for one :D

If you ever upgrade the mobo the RAM could become the limiting factor, as the minimum ram speed is 1/2th the FSB (so say you run a 1333 mhz fsb its 667 and 1600mhz fsb its 800). So you might want to get something faster, you might not.

Happy Christmas & Good Luck.

thanks for the info , and yeah the only thing wrong with the 580 was that the fans were dead , so i striped it all apart and zip-tied a 120mm fan to it lol

Thanks , Merry Xmas :)

Edit : Btw its this mobo :) http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3485#ov , also i noticed in the bios , i can un-link the RAM from the CPU speed , is that a good thing or bad thing ?

That's a good thing, that negates what I said about the RAM for that board, but I don't think you'll get enough speed from that board for the RAM to become a problem :P

So it'd still be a concern if you upgrade but its not too big a deal looking at most Q8200s.

Awesome :) , i sorta know what im doing OC wise , i got a 1ghz OC on his Pentium lol , but man is that thing bottlenecking the crap out of his gtx580 lol

also if you are in the UK , look at CEX for used GPU's , pretty good prices , thats where im getting his CPU from , £15 :)

I occasionally look in CEX, its generally GPUs I look at though, the CPUs are usually too slow for what I'm interested in doing with them :P

They need to go fast ;)

775 held its value way to much, probably because its so good to mess around with. 1366 is the same ;(

I'm still using 1366 ;) oc to 4 gigs + Ht & turbo

It doesn't break a sweat for modern games.

The cpu is Intel I7 Quadcore 930, Mobo is asus P6t se

Has been stresstested for 3 hours without thermal throttle.

Maybe I could get better results but cba to find out.

@harrynowl @Jumper118

i found out that this is infact my brothers motherboard : http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2691#ov

will that change anything in terms of OC on a Q8200 or similar ?

thanks :D

Maybe slightly better. Not by much.

I'd be surprised if you got over 360 FSB with it

Need you guys help here. I got this pc ip and running yesterday. Tried to bump the clock from 2.93GHz to 3.2GHz but the pc will give me issues like GPU driver not responding. And it even refuse to shut down. Running at 1.3+v only touch the multiplier. Dont know why or where i went wrong.

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Are you compensating for RAM speed as you increase the FSB?

didnt touch the FSB stayed at 266MHz

only change the multiplier from 11 to 14

unstable then went to 3.4GHz

GPU crapping on me

3.2GHz refuse to shut down

back to 2.93GHz

I'm a little disappointed because my q6700 was only able to get 3.5ghz when I was hoping for 3.7Ghz.  How accurate is CPU-z's core voltage?  Because if CPU-z is correct I'm getting some massive vdroop.
