LGA775 Core2Duo, Core2Quad OVERCLOCKING guide

harrynowl

Ok, a FSB of 333MHz, voltage at 1.5, and the computer posts and only flickers the beginning of the windows logo before restarting.

its that last few 200-300mhz where they fail. 4.8-4.9ghz is still very high though.

Yep, I'll try again this afternoon (it runs just fine at 320MHz, but I haven't reset the bios yet-so I'm on my laptop). Because I'm not running a P4 below 3.9GHz after experiencing the boost my old 3.2GHz Northwood based laptop got (and to this day I'm amazed that the 120W power brick and dual fan/heatsinks are enough for it).

Yes you should be able to. On my P5Q Turbo and Deluxe I can easily push my Xeon X5450 to 4.4GHz.

Edit: 3.6GHz for me equals setting the FSB to 400MHz, and leaving everything else on auto.

My P5Q handles an X5450 @ 4.4Ghz without issue, it is likely your overclock/chip going wrong.

Well it doesn't take much for a CPU to get into the BIOS, could you give me a picture of your BIOS settings? :)

I have no choice to put it back to default it was just getting buggy a lot

try a lower oc. going from 2.83ghz to 3.6ghz is a big jump to go up in one go.

if it's possible to achieve a 3.2 or 3.4 would be good enough for me

I see, what voltage did you apply when you tried 3.6GHz?

1.30000 cpu

set the voltage to 1.3v and then increase it to 3, 3.2, 3.4 until it doesn't work any more, then go back to where it did work.

That's a pretty battered looking X5450... although mine has a missing chunk of PCB.. I dropped it because the packaging was a bit questionable, I went to untape it and it just fell straight through :P

its just a few scratches. i think the very artistic flash on the camera made it look bad.

the qx9650 is a c0 :(. will this effect the overclocking in general or just how high it can go on the bus speed? its on an x38 dq6 and it has 4gb of ram for £100, but i could sell the board and ram. i could try make him an offer for less as well.

Screen shot he provided of it at stock.

Couldn't really find much on it but generally newer is both cooler and more tolerant of higher clocks (because the chips are better).

Assuming he is running that RAM at factory settings that looks like some pretty weaksauce RAM...

EDIT: PC6400.. pretty sure that means 800mhz :(

Personally I wouldn't buy it full stop the extremes are no better than regulars on a decent board.
