I bought a Crucial MX500 @ 500 gigs capacity for my 4 year old laptop. This is the first time I'm getting to experience an SSD, hands-on. And I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made. Feels better than when the laptop was new.

Wasn't gonna post this at first, but this was a pretty good deal: Battle for Bikini Bottom and the Movie game from the Happy Squared Pack release of these two.

Now all I need are the regular copies of these... although if some shit happens soon enough, it might come sooner rather than later from @pinksnowbirdie...

This will do 2 things for me:

1. Tell me whether I have $400 in used electronics or $0 in used electronics

2. Let me install an OS while I wait for my IDe optical drive to arrive

oh wow, its been awhile since I saw or thought about a 29x0 HBA. The trapezoidal plugs, if they're the 68-pin kind, are for hard drives and stuff. The exact naming and details are lost somewhere in my brain but tl;dr its just a faster connection than the 50-pin ports provide.

 

Edit-I think the 68-pin kind is "UltraWide SCSI", but it can support a bunch of data rates depending on the controller and drives connected, from 40MB/s up to 320MB/s

yeah if you're using it for an optical drive you'll only need the 50-pin "Wide SCSI" port. I've never personally seen a CDRom with the 68-pin Port. That card should work fine you just won't use every port.

Optical drive and hard drive (which I won't be using - just making sure it works so I can know if it's a $200 brick or a $0 brick).

Where'd you get that from? I've been meaning to pick up a driver kit with security bits included, but there's no way I'm paying the price to import the US ones (iFixit, etc).
