LTT Official Folding Month 2019!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

@TVwazhere Can you please lock this thread for me.

I saw that, but memory are already in 3505mHz, or I should I put in p3?

you can try if you can go any higher, but be aware that it might start to artifect when you go unstable

ve had GPU memory OC's give folding instabilities. i generally leave the GPU in P0 state so the memory boosts to full out-of-box speed but given how twitchy FAH is with overclocks

hm... i might try that as well, just with an overclock to mine, it does +450/900 just fine

I have just "signed up" for a passkey. I only have done 3 WUs. (you can check my stats here). That's why I only make around 80k a day.

Yeah, all things operating correctly (making sure you've entered your passkey into the FAH client) then you should see it increase once you've completed the 10 WU's.

is that what's displayed in the folding window? there's currently some server/client mismatch with QRB points but the telling tale will be looking through the logs and looking for the part where the work collection server responds WORK_ACK (or similar) and there it will give you a readback of your points for that unit

Looks like one time yesterday it did have a 120k work unit, but there was also a 149k and 164k as well. Thanks for telling me about that.

If you haven't checked it out already, the website below will show you your stats, as well as the teams. Just search with your FAH id...  Plus once you complete 10 WU's, you'll start getting the QRB points (although they may not appear in the client PPD readout due to the current bug, as mentioned above).

Well this doesn't make sense. Both the folding at home webcontrol AND my team points are lower than the work_ack says.

Both say 93k but my logs are showing way higher numbers

if you want to offset the memory on the 970 i'd reccomend about a +125 offset which should leave you at 7.75gt/s, which is a healthy bump and it shouldn't cause anything to fail. BUT, it would be much much better for you to just make sure the card is folding in P0 state and to bump your core speeds a few mhz

Hmm, now when I try to overclock my memory or gpu clock it won't set, when I apply changes it reset to previous settings...

I'm not certain, but it may have something to do with not yet reaching the 10 WU threshold.

That would explain it. I will post again on the matter if on the 11th unit there is an issue.

why are you setting p3? p3 state limits core and memory clock, if you try and exceed the limit it won't do it and it will just null out the slider. set the card to p0 state.

Got a little confused because one part says Performance level 3 and after P0..
(that's how It's currently set)

Testing Folding on my new build now (3700x @ 4.0Ghz 1.25 volt) and 1070ti. on medium workload it's putting all cores/threads at 50-100% workload and GPU at 83-84% load. Is this normal? Also my CPU with it's stock cooler is hovering around 91C.

Maybe I should just go back to base clock on the 3700x. CPU does go down to 76c or so.

specs:

Asus prime x570-p

Sounds about right for the GPU, though remember to leave at least 2 threads free (set it to 14 or fewer threads on a 3700x) when folding on it to prevent bottlenecking the GPU.

consider undervolting in BIOS by a 0.05 negative offset. Might tame the beast a bit.

Like this correct? It was default to letting the client choose.

Yes. I would adjust your fan curves on the 3700x to try to get those temps down, but unless power is cheap for you, CPU folding isn't really worth it (that being said, I do fold on my 3900x because it does produce a noticeable bump in PPD).

Ehh it's California so it can be high. But I don't use AC at all but the heatwave is finally gone, it's been pretty nice this summer in all honesty.

Edit: I'll probably try and let this CPU workload finish then just go GPU only.

Looking forward to the event! It is really positive in at least four ways.

  1. We are going to help a lot of people
  2. We are spreading awareness
  3. Winter is coming, and my PC will be my space heater
  4. It's a good excuse to finally apply new thermal paste to my 980ti's

I just run 50% of my CPU cores, keeps it's temps at a nice comfortable level. CPU's aren't particularly efficient for folding (PPD yield per watt).

okay your card is in p2 state so you're not gonna get the full performance out of it

what you're gonna want to do is download this and scroll down to section 5. stop your client folding and close it down, set the "force cuda p2 state" to off, apply changes and then restart. then run that nvsmi command again and your gpu should be in p0 state while folding and you should have proper control over the clocks. ALSO, if your slider for folding isn't maxed out onto full that can screw with you

please be aware that FAH is WAY more sensitive than games when it comes to core and memory instabilities, so apply very conservative overclocks at most.

Thank you! Now everything is working fineimage.png.a2a9d2f3a07b4aa3264feeb2205b980b.png

I was folding a lot a couple of years ago for the Barnacules Nerdgasm team. The problem was that I did it in a small student apartment, in the middle of the summer. It was about 20-25oC outside, and 35-40oC in my apartment, so i know this will work ?

To qualify for badges you must meet the minimum requirements for participation which for this event will be as follows minimum requirements: 100k points, 20WUs, and 20 days of having activity over the course of the whole month. This is subject to change for future events as we find out what the sweet spot is to include as many people as possible but not make it too easy to just get a free badge.

Quick question regarding active days, would you only be required to do one WU per day to be considered active. Given the numbers I'd assume as much but you know... :D

Personally I plan on folding in the evenings and on weekends due to variable power pricing in my area, so getting enough active days was a bit of a concern for me at first.
