Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

Looks like I need to get another gpu, getting my rx 480 to work with OpenCL on linux has not been success. Nvidia card worked after 5mins of packet installs but hours work with rx 480 wasn't successful.

Only problem with with my nvidia card is its model, Quadro NVS 295, no WUs exist for it ?

So it looks like its time to upgrade my RX 480, now I need to decide what to get for replacement. Used GTX 1070, new gtx 1660 ti or RTX 2060.

So i have seen from the comments above, that a 1060 would be normal to get over 100k ppd easily and should be getting 3 times that, so here's the thing. I'm sitting here, with my RX 580, Sapphire Nitro+, OC'd to 1460, which isn't much, and im getting around 80k with my CPU as well. Now i see the reason for this problem being two things: One, my card is AMD. Two, my port be PCI-E 2.0 . . . FX machine here.

Apologies if you've already been informed of this, but there is also a current issue with the quick return bonus points not being awarded immediately. So the PPD reading in the FAH client may not be accurate (this is being fixed apparently).

Whilst this is still being fixed, it's best to see your points on the extreme overclocking folding stats page (there is a delay of a few hours with these stats)...

https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=223518

(just search for your own folding id)

https://www.overclock.net/forum/55-overclock-net-folding-home-team/475163-gpu-projects-ppd-database.html

^^this table can also help with guessing approximately what you might expect to return with different GPU's.

Myself and @Gorgon have 1660 Ti's folding if you have any questions ?

If we’re finally seeing the price drops in the 2060s due to the competition from AMD then that would be the card I’d get if I had the extra $ to spend

Even if there are price drops it takes time until it shows up in local prices here.

If I look for a card that has decent cooler, prices here are around:

GTX 1660 Ti = 320€

RTX 2060 = 380€ (has a NVIDIA game bundle)

Used GTX 1070 = 230€

I so happy that we have 24% VAT

Same here in NZ. Prices don't get slashed like in North America, and even the discounts we do get take longer to materialise. Smaller markets I suppose.

24% is high! (ours is 15%), but I'm sure you have great healthcare, and I know for a fact you have an amazing education system!

Ouch. Our taxes are only 14%. I’ll stop complaining about those now.

Those cards are 400 & 450 $Cdn currently. So given the current exchange rate the price should be 266 & 300 Euros. Likely we get the advantage of the US market as most of our consumer electronics come through there and possibly we have lower tarrifs

Though we have universal healthcare, university is only somewhat subsidized as I can attest putting the 2nd kid through university now is getting expensive but at least it’s not like the US where you’d have to sell an organ every year.

does anyone have an update as to when we can expect the bonus points to be awarded normally again?

Someone knowledgeable when asked for a guess back in mid July said here:

Ok, if you force me to make a prediction, I'll say August or September. Not “soon”

These servers are usually run by academics (likely Post Doctoral students or the Professors themselves) with little to no support from the University’s IT department and it is the summer break currently.

EoC and the Folding at Home sites are both (mostly) reporting the correct values and we will be using the flat files from Foldingathome for the competition so even if they don’t have it fixed by October we should be OK.

It looks like there are only two servers left to be updated, one at Washington University in St. Louis and another at Sloan-Kettering.

Sorry, but can someone explain what folding is to me?

This is a reference to what proteins do within the body, they fold. To drag in a quote from foldingathome.org,

Quote

In order to carry out their function (e.g. as enzymes or antibodies), they must take on a particular shape, also known as a “fold.” Thus, proteins are truly amazing machines: before they do their work, they assemble themselves! This self-assembly is called “folding.” ~ https://foldingathome.org/diseases/

the Folding at Home software you can find here, will allow your computer to be part of the distributed computing project. The software aids research by simulating protein folding, of which the calculations that need to be done are very immense. So instead of giant blocks of calculations, they break them down into work units, and pass the work units onto several individual computers with the software set up. In a way, this distributed computer project makes for a supercomputer.

Your 580 should pull approximately 340k PPD. Have you got a passkey for the quick return bonus points? Also, you will need to return 10 WU's before you'll start getting the bonus points, and remember if you're CPU folding also that you need to leave a core spare for your OS and another for managing the GPU folding.

I have just "signed up" for a passkey. I only have done 3 WUs. (you can check my stats here). That's why I only make around 80k a day.
