How are prizes awarded

That will be announced closer to the start, but it will be done through a random draw of some kind. Most likely with certain prizes being given certain ranges of ranks.

Try going into preferences in the advanced control panel (type FAHcontrol into start menu) and deleting then recreating the slot for the GPU.

If that doesn't work it is almost certainly a driver issue.

wow... that did it.... this was litterally the FAH equivilent of turn off and on again, but deleteing and adding the slot again. is 65% cpu usage on full power normal?

@shplack this could help you too.

Haha yeah, it's an old piece of software and has much weirdnesses to it. If you want it to use more of your CPU you can edit the CPU folding slot to use more threads, just change the -1 to the number of threads you want to donate to the cause.

Make sure you leave one per Nvidia GPU and one for the OS free though.

Depends on how many threads it's using I suppose. If you go in to the configure menu and slots, you can edit the CPU slot and there's an option for how many threads it can use. -1 is default which lets F@H choose how many CPU threads to use, or you can type in another number. Keep in mind you want to keep at least one CPU thread for the GPU to use, and at least one for other programs/OS.

If you have a dedicated GPU I would recommend using that for folding and not using the CPU. The points earned through GPU folding far exceed anything you can earn with CPU folding. You can delete the slot for CPU to remove it.

Doesn't help. I'm getting this error now:

14:54:46:ERROR:WU01:FS00:Failed to start core: Option 'opencl-index' has no default and is not set.

I checked the driver details and I see that OpenCL isn't installed. I've literally reinstalled the drivers a few times and even installed the CUDA ToolKit. Nothing's helping...

I had the same issue where OpenCL wasn't installing properly and was showing as unchecked in GPU-Z, despite no matter how many times I DDU'd and reinstalled the Nvidia drivers.

Try the steps here and see if the solution that worked for me helps. Basically use safe mode with DDU to uninstall Intel HD Drivers, reboot in safe mode and install Nvidia drivers. Check GPU-Z and it should [hopefully] show OpenCL.

Quote

Finally fixed it. Issue with both 7.5.1 and 7.4.4 seemed to be related to OpenCL. I noticed in GPU-Z the OpenCL box wasn't checked when I was installing the Nvidia display drivers (downloaded from Nvidia website).

  1. Unplug ethernet cable
  2. Boot in to safe mode
  3. Use DDU to uninstall the Intel HD display drivers
  4. Reboot in to safe mode
  5. Use DDU to uninstall Nvidia display drivers
  6. Reboot in to safe mode
  7. Run Disk Cleanup on C Drive to remove old drivers in the driver repository
  8. Install Nvidia Display Drivers (399.24) (430.61) (while in safe mode!)
  9. Reboot
  10. Install Folding At Home 7.5.1

make sure that you install the correct version of the drivers.

if this is a laptop, you probably have to install the DSH version of the driver from nvidias website.

I started folding again. Figured I might as well use my secondary system for something useful.

4 cores of my Ryzen 5 1600 and my GTX 780 are now working hard.

It ain't much, but it really is honest work.

Great advice. DDUing the driver and then reinstalling it seems to have done the trick. Maybe shoulda done this in the first place but I couldn't fathom OpenCL not having been installed previously... Who knows what happened.

Also we have a double to the number of active folders for the team already, damn this is going to be big!

Hot damn! Should be a good event. Great to see so many people interested!

For those interested this is the LinusTechTips team monthly points history over the past 3 years. Let's see if we can beat last years!

@GOTSpectrum Do you remember the total points earned for last years event?

Edit: Nevermind, XOC still shows it. 6,371,697,312 points earned, 288,472 Work Units completed.

Sure! I just pulled the data for November 2018 from XOC but I know that isn't accurate to the event itself.

Would be interesting to see how many people we had involved, how many points earned, how many work units completed, and whatever else. That way we have a goal to aim for this year. Try to beat the high score ;)

No rush though, whenever you get to it. I know you're busy with the sign ups.

Well that and the fact I have a newborn son too haha, been trying to trade him for a 2080ti but no retailers take your first born as payment these days.
