    This is a known issue with Nvidia drivers;

"Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe) service may report higher GPU usage on some RTX 30- series configurations [3830387] Workaround: disable Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling from the Windows Settings"

I rolled back to 522.25 to fix the issue until they have fixed it.

Tomthehitman reacted to HQuan in More RAM or faster RAM?
Let me start by asking a similar question. Which is better:
A Ferrari F50, speed fast as hell, 2 seats

…or a Ford F150? Slow as SHIT but has 5 seats and a trunk?

I think you know the answer: It Depends!™

If you’re hauling a sack of groceries, the Ferrari is just fine. If you’re hauling a few tons of dirt, rocks, lumber, and so forth, you want the truck.
The same goes with memory. If your workload fits in 1GB of RAM (and that includes the OS, application, and whatever data you’re manipulating), then chances are the faster DDR4 memory would perform better.

If your workload does not fit in 1GB, but does fit in 4GB, then there’s a good chance the larger but slower memory will perform better overall.

If you try to haul the dirt, rocks, and/or lumber with the Ferrari, you’ll have to make many trips, and you may even need to drive slower than usual. Likewise, if you try to run a workload that doesn’t fit in your 1GB of RAM, you’ll probably end up paging to disk. Disk is extremely slow compared to RAM.

If you try to take your Ford F150 around a twisty race track, you’re going to have to slow down quite a bit in the corners, and you won’t have as high a top speed in the straightaways as you would in the Ferrari. Likewise, if you try to run a workload that doesn’t use a lot of memory, but is very sensitive to access latency and throughput, you’ll find it runs much better in the smaller, faster 1GB DDR4 than it does in the larger, slower 4GB DDR.

Where’s the crossover point? Is there a magic equation for “When is xxGB of speed xx better than yyGB of speed yy?” No. You need to know the workload and its characteristics. There isn’t a single figure of merit. This is a multidimensional problem.

A minor, related work anecdote: A coworker and I were talking about memory layout for one of our systems. I pointed out that we had just referred to a 2 kilobyte buffer as “generous.” This is in a very high speed peripheral that attaches to a server that has half a terabyte of RAM.

The “best” size and speed characteristics of a RAM really depend on what it’s being used for, and where.

Neither, I'd just use the controller as intended with the intended cable. Therefore saving me $10. Is this a thing that people don't like using multiple cables? Is it really that big of a deal to just keep a microusb handy for the controller? Do you plan on trying to change the charging port for anything that doesn't use type c going forward?

Seems like a lot of effort just so you don't have to use two different types of cables. Other than that you won't notice any difference on an Xbox controller, it won't make you a better gamer..... but hey each to their own I guess.

    SOLVED

It seemed my network adapter was interfering with sleep mode.

Device Manager > Network Adapters > "Right click your adapter" > Properties > Power Management > Uncheck "Allow this device to wake computer" > Restart.

Now both the computer and I can have some much needed sleep.

Tomthehitman reacted to Dravinian in Why are Mods making this forum Ask Jeeves?
This forum isn't so much a community of people who are together to have a laugh, chew the fat, feel like a part of something...but more a place where you can ask and answer questions, and read some tech news.

Everything else is apparently a Status Update, which I doubt many people actually read, I am sure I will be contradicted there before the Mods shut this post too, but I haven't read any updates in the months I have been here and I doubt I ever would...why would you read what one person has to say, on a forum that is designed to engage the whole community?  That has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Why is this place becoming Stack Overflow rather than a place where people in a community can come together to talk about stuff and have a laugh? - as long as there is some connection to technology, the fundamental base of the community.  If it isn't offensive, if it isn't divisive, then why isn't it allowed as long as it doesn't break the rules?

That is the point of a forum, to foster a community.  It isn't meant to be a question and answer place and a news site, there are places for that.

If it isn't a community, then I for one, don't really see any point to it.  It seems like a lot of effort spent on not creating something.

I mean it would really depend on your preference to what feels best for you, I would recommend going to a computer store and trying out different types of mechanical keyboards with different types of switches in to see which suits you best.

I use the K70 MK.2 and it uses cherry red switches and these feel nice for me but it could feel different for you.

Has it just started doing it or since you had it? I think it's an issue with the airflow from the case. Your card shouldn't be running that hot.

One temporary solution could be to set the fans to higher RPM with the fan tuning, it will be louder but will keep your GPU cooler.

What are you scanning with to confirm you have a virus? Surely you would need to actually download the virus from the attachment and run it for it to be able to install on your PC, it can't just infect it from being on an attachment as far as I know.

Are you using any other hard drives on the PC or removable media that could of been infected and are passing it back over to your PC?

If you have 4 lan ports and you have 4 devices you want to connect by cable then you don't need a switch, if you have more than 4 devices you want to connect by cable then you will need a switch.

All a switch does is turn one of your ports into multiple ports.

Honestly the cost to buy that much ethernet cable and then the time spent trying to lay and bury it over 500m, plus the fact it's unlikely to have any decent speed at them distances if it works at all, would it not be easier for him to buy his own internet?

Where do you live? Most internet providers here (UK) will put a line into the property if they don't already have one for whatever reason.
