    Nothing personal OP.

I do wish people would stop asking "what is better" or "what is best" and give no idea what they consider good or their wants.  Usually there are no winners in every category, most items are better in some areas worse in others. Without knowing what they will be used for it is often impossible to say A is better than B in every way.

You could try asking Jay he seems to have LOTS of GPUs.

This tools thing has me intrigued, apart from a #2 screwdriver what else do you have?

Building/faffing, whatever,  nothing  special, as long as the area  is not cluttered or overrun by cats .
A wooden table will be fine, maybe a towel (smooth/clean) over the table surface to stop it scratching your componemts.

More complicated, in what way is it more complicated?
Count your fingers, base 10 seems to be the way to go.

You can't even use the more factors argument as depending on what you are measuring the next level up may be a totally different amount (I.E. 16 ounces in a pound 14 pounds in a stone, 8 stones in a hudredweight 20 hundredweight in a ton )

People seem paranoid over ESD, it is no-where near the problem it once was.

I would say that you DON'T want to be grounded anyway rather you want to equalise the potential differences (voltages).

Do not sweat it, what you are doing seems fine just remember to touch an unpainted part of your case periodically whilst unwrapping components; you will have a hard job NOT touching the case almost continuosly whilst assembling the system.

It can be considered like that but it does not.  In actuality what happens is the same amount of charge is built up but humid air conducts better than dry air so it allows the charge to dissipate into the atmosphere not allowing a big difference in the voltages. So the effect is that there are not so many/such powerful catastrophic(in the instantaneous meaning not the amount of damage caused) discharges.

I am anti-grounding.  I do not want to be at zero volts (or ground voltage) relative to everything near me I'd rather equalise( be at their voltage whether this is zero volts or  1 million volts(<slight hyperbole there)) less chance of a difference in voltage causing a catastrophic discharge.  Still with all the anti ESD measures built in to modern components, and in built/semi-built systems it is all moot anyway.  Just don't do anything silly, like strokeing the cat whilst building, and you will be fine.

Here (Scotland.  Hence all the runaways to get married at Gretnagreen) you can be 16 and get married  without approval.
Why you would want to is another matter, but then two years is an eternity at 16 years old.

When I was at school (many∞  moons ago) going about with someone a couple of years different was a talking point of the cradle snatcher/lucky B variety, but as you say once you have left school nobody cares .
And I am not American so not really sure about your school system but AFAIK high school is only four years, nothing in the scheme of things.

soup got a reaction from ClobberXD in How long did your first PC build take to build?
The physical build is the fastest part of getting a new system; researching the 'best' part(s) for you can take many weeks  .

The physical build can take anything from ½ ~3 hours depending on how anal your cable management is.  Then same sort of time for O/S, driver installation .

For your  first build the time taken tends to the higher end; don't force and don't rush, enjoy yourself .

Modern electronics are pretty hardened to ESD, modern MoBos generally have some type of ESD protection, a built up system usully allows equalisation of charges etc etc

To be honest the only way you will know if you have damaged anything is to try it and see, no third party (without access)can tell you if you have damaged something, you are unlikely to have damaged anything but the only way to know for sure is to try it

Sounds like the outside penetrated somewhere .    Pulling out a piece of the nail will have damaged 'the quik' which being under the nail means the wound is virtually impossible to detect.

Going by your location tag, "land of tea and crumpets", you are in England somewhere so visits to the doc are free (at point of delivery), would be a good idea to go to docs and just have this looked at.  My docs is actually a health centre, so have a podiatrist on staff and you can get refered to her. This is probably a non-event but as it costs nothing(APOD) you're as well getting it checked out.

Try googling (use anything related to the "virus") for specific removal instructions .  Quite often a scan(by some specific scanner) will not 'see' and so will not remove a specific virus .
Googling this problem will often lead to specific instructions (usually involving booting in to safe mode and doing some registry editing) on how to remove said virus.
Most technicians do not know how to solve every problem but they will know how to google the solution .
