I'd also suggest unraid for the hardware you have, IE a mix of old drives.

I love TrueNAS Scale and Core, but I tend to use that on old server hardware and identical disk sets, and prefer unraid on old desktop hardware.

Normally I'd recommend TrueNAS Scale, but you have mixed hard drives and it's not really made for that. (ZFS works best when you deploy multiple identical drives at once.)

Unraid lets you mix disks and grow dynamically, but I haven't used it myself.

Windows is perfectly fine for what you say you want to do with it. I'd recommend keeping the Plex metadata on the SSD, it will make the interfaces on your client devices feel a lot more responsive.

unraid? Works pretty well with mixed drive sizes, and nice web interface.

You can't use your nas to add space to google, it will work as its own space. You can use apps for a good like experience though, lie next cloud.

2 ms should be fine for most Micro's
personally I would go for something like the AVR 328p, esp32 or the Due to get the required speed without having to deal with the complexer cpu of the Raspberry's and the boards limitations for use as a Real time mcu

Raspberry Pico might be an option as well or and ESP32 chip with FreeRTOS

Well in that case probably most things, mostly its going to come down to IO and other features you want to have.
ESP32 is fairly solid, there are some good STM32 chips out there as well for a more barebones setup. I would say stick to 32bit MCUs if a small increase in cost and slightly higher potential power draw is not a concern as it gives you more flexibility for new and current features. Though from the description you gave (might not be the whole picture and don't know the design specs you are work with) you might be able to get away with an 8bit micro like the AVR or PIC family but you might end up scratching your head a bit more when coding up the firmware.
Good luck with the design 🙂

Use whatever thermal paste and itll work, only way to break the damn die is overpressure (no unless you make a custom mounting system), or you drop the heatsink on it

Im on 775 so working with the nb aka chipset is pretty common, ive even shoved a tec cooler on it and it didnt break

6000 and 7000 series CPUs use the 100 and 200 series chipsets. You can check out the manufacturer website when you find a specific board to make sure that the CPU is on the support list, but the cheapest one will probably be the H110 chipset.

    The i5 6500 is an LGA 1151 (v1) CPU. It works on 100- and 200-series motherboard (H110, B150, H170, Z170, B250, H270, Z270).
Keep in mind it does not work with 300-series motherboards, despite that also being LGA 1151 (unofficial known as 'v2').

This may partly retread territory covered elsewhere, but:

Apple's change won't actually do much versus what it and others have been doing before — scanning unencrypted photos headed to the cloud. The hashes used to flag photos are only for existing pics identified as CSAM, and Apple will only review the material if there are enough matches to cross a certain threshold (i.e there shouldn't be false positives). I believe the estimate was a 1 in a trillion chance of a false match. There's also been a suggestion this might actually lead to better security for your photos, since moving the photo checks on-device would make it easier for Apple to encrypt iCloud photo collections.

Don't forget that Google, Microsoft and others also scan cloud content for CSAM, so moving to Android might not change much if anything. Especially not when privacy on Android is worse overall (not terribly worse, but there are definitely sacrifices).

    As for the iPhone itself...

First: wait until September. Apple is expected to introduce its next iPhone line (the 12s, 13, or whatever it's called) around then, and it'll likely include significant improvements to camera technology, performance and screens.

It does sound like you'd want a Pro variant of the iPhone, whatever you get. LiDAR is very helpful for accurate and quick object data capture, and it'll lead to better photography outside of those apps. You just won't get that on the Android side of things, at least not right now.

tomcer2003 reacted to Donut417 in Buying apple or stay android
Wait for it to roll out. I have a feeling it wont be long before they decide to stop using it. Either because people will find ways to manipulate it. Apple's AI will end up with garbage data. I also question the legality of theme doing this. While Apple is not the government, they are providing info to the government. So they might get sued over this due to 4th amendment concerns.

Also I wouldn't say that Google is clean in any regard as well. Because who knows what data they collect and who they share it with. Microsoft collects tons of data as well with Windows 10. I mean if you have something crash, the crash report can contain the contents in memory.
  13. Agree
tomcer2003 reacted to Donut417 in Buying apple or stay android
Yeah but its easy to manipulate hashes. Secondly they are scanning data on your phone and using your data. Thats the issue. Also if any "Questionable" content is found an Apple employee is suppose to "Review" it. If that person is having a bad day, they can make YOU have a bad day. Last I heard Apple is sharing this info with Law Enforcement (Side stepping the 4th amendment). Thats why people have issues with this.

Now I can see if they were to scan iCloud data for this then it wouldn't be an issue, because iCloud hard drives are Apple's Property. My iPhone is MY PROPERTY. I find it a strange move for Apple as well. Considering they refused to unlock a terrorists cell phone for the FBI.

tomcer2003 reacted to mariushm in Is the PCB repairable?
Unless you're really patient and good with a soldering iron, the card's a total loss.

I suspect the pcb material has cracked/bent quite a lot around the screw and it's almost like the whole "ring" of pcb material around the screw is about to break off.
I think some of those thin traces that curved around that "safety" area around the screw got damaged and are interrupted, broken

You would have to repair at the very least these ... and to the left of the big yellow circled area  if that's not dust :
And  on the other side, may have to check vias and copper fills as all the area around the screw is "unreliable"

tomcer2003 reacted to airborne spoon in I blew up my motherboard. Is my GPU toast?
Just RMA them to their individual manufacturer, same with the MB. most cards have like a 4 year or so warranty and MB its usually around the same. when shit fails that is the whole reason the RMA process exists is for when shit fails before it is expected to. the manufacture is responsible for not giving out lemon cards so if you get stuff that fails send it in and make them fix it for free under the warranty RMA process.

this is one for r/Unethical life tips:

if you mine with GPU and want to get out of mining or the hash rates have dropped or if the warranty is about to expire in a month just RMA it for a new one. The one you get back can then be sold on eBay for a profit since you likely got the card at a lower price than current market price. And you can buy a brand new better card with a full multi year warranty remaining. Or throw the fixed RMA card back in your rig and mine on it some more either way its a win.

Fans won't spin, because it needs to reach 40°C. Try to change from hdmi or display port. Also, try to run both cards at the same time, in first slot put your 3060 and in second 590. Boot to windows and check for display outputs, if it would show 590 u are good

tomcer2003 reacted to Oshino Shinobu in Can't boot with secure boot
Your boot drive is most likely using the MBR partition table. Booting from MBR is a legacy feature, which requires CSM in modern UEFI. Disabling CSM means the UEFI can no longer boot from the drive. You'd need to reinstall the OS using GPT/UEFI boot instead of MBR.

That said, check in disk management first to make sure the drive is indeed MBR before you go reinstalling.

Try to use drill and make some holes or use dremel for some openings, if u will make some holes or any modifications to the case I strongly recommend adding fan to the case. Also, mod bar and back of the case together, it will improve airflow.
