Buying apple or stay android

Hi. Over the years I tried every big company but not apple. So now it's time for upgrade, because A70 is just not powerful enough for me. Now I want to try apple and wait for new iPhone, but I don't like what they are planning to do. They will be scanning, my face for child abuse and their AI will be scanning for child porn? I get it, but I like my privacy. My gf is, let's just say she has smaller breasts. So now AI will flag the photos and send it to verification? AI will for sure make a lot of mistakes (AI are hard to train for this application, I worked at similar project and we failed, because there is a lot of factors in play and so many factors are shared between groups of people. I'm not going in details. There is just a lot mashine learning and that is not perfect by any means for this application. It will catch for sure a lot of pedos, but it will also put a lot of innocent people in a bad light only for shape of them or their parents) and I don't like feeling that stranger will be staring on my gf, when AI will act strange for some reason that even creators didn't expect. Also I need phone for electronics databases and chip databases with decoders. I'm in EU, will this breach in security apply to me as well or only for US? This is biggest deal breaker for me right now. Battery is not concern, I can replace it by my self in the future if it will get bad. Lidar scanner would be good for pcb and fusion 360 modelling. I'm a student and I need some good phone for my study, work on projects.

I don't think you understand how their CSAM scanning is going to work. Will the iPhone work for you in all other aspects?

Yes, it meet all aspects. But I'm concerned about CSAM. I'm just pessimistic from my experience with AI. At least with that I come across in school. There is just too many things that can go wrong. We worked on some face stuff that should shown your ethnicity, but it was catastrophicall failure

Then wait until its fully rolled out to the market. Personally im also pessimistic but really, only public can be the judge of how precise an AI is.

Then don't buy an iPhone. Though that being said, you can't really compare the AI project on which you worked on vs a project ran by a huge corporation (like Apple or Google).
Also your A70 was a mid-range phone, if you found the performance lacking and you are thinking about an iPhone, but don't  want it due to concerns over CSAM... why not get an Android flagship this time? Speaking of flagships, Google Pixel 6 with "Google silicon" (Tensor) is about to be released... could be interesting:

Wait for it to roll out. I have a feeling it wont be long before they decide to stop using it. Either because people will find ways to manipulate it. Apple's AI will end up with garbage data. I also question the legality of theme doing this. While Apple is not the government, they are providing info to the government. So they might get sued over this due to 4th amendment concerns. 

 

Also I wouldn't say that Google is clean in any regard as well. Because who knows what data they collect and who they share it with. Microsoft collects tons of data as well with Windows 10. I mean if you have something crash, the crash report can contain the contents in memory.

The child porn identification, as I understand it, is based on a database of hashes of known child pornography photos. It's not going to label you a pedophile because you have pics of your of-age GFs small breasts.

 

The rest of the features are basically parental controls. It detects nudity of any sort in outgoing or incoming messages and alerts the parent, to help combat under age sexting. You presumably wouldn't be running with parental controls on, so no worries there.

Yeah but its easy to manipulate hashes. Secondly they are scanning data on your phone and using your data. Thats the issue. Also if any "Questionable" content is found an Apple employee is suppose to "Review" it. If that person is having a bad day, they can make YOU have a bad day. Last I heard Apple is sharing this info with Law Enforcement (Side stepping the 4th amendment). Thats why people have issues with this. 

 

Now I can see if they were to scan iCloud data for this then it wouldn't be an issue, because iCloud hard drives are Apple's Property. My iPhone is MY PROPERTY. I find it a strange move for Apple as well. Considering they refused to unlock a terrorists cell phone for the FBI.

And you are being vague about the type of performance you want improved. What issue exactly are you running into?

I know that it's not high end phone. I'm constantly running out of ram. Android on my phone is using 2.1 GB ram, as soon as usage hit 5GB it starts to extremely slows down. I need better optimization. CPU is still fast enough also battery is still good after two years of heavy usage. I would need at least 10GB ram. My but my friend with iPhone is good with 4GB ram and still has headroom. This was why I was considering iPhone. This time instead of android.

I know its midrange phone. But I'm looking price tag around 500€~700€. In my state we can write is as business expense and it will get you - 23% of price. On android I would need at least 10GB ram for my usage but apple needs only 4GB(my friend has a iPhone and he needs only 4GB ram and still has headroom, I still don't know how it is possible). And I have serious strist issues with oppo or huawei. I don't have problem if they will scan Icloud or my Google photos because store where I have data is their property, but I have problem with scanning my personal device that I bought and it's my property. (my old honor was sending some private stuff, I think it was some files that I never search on my phone, I had some cad drawings and eagle schematic. After a week a had adds everywhere for components used. This files were from school and there is no way I ever search for them on my personal pc or phone. This is why I don't want any of these companies)

How did you come up with that number?

When it starts lagging and slowing down I check memory usage in settings. But it will reach 5GB and then it will slow down significantly or app just crashes. When u have 2000Hz rising Edge and u need to really fast find some spots and need to compare with oscilloscope, app will crash after 400~700 devisions. Its frustrating because when it crashes u can't start where it crashed. 10GB ram is with some headroom for the future. App was made by some student in my school to help us. But it was primarily made for iPhone and only adopted for android use. My primary subjects is making IC for computing, but there is pre taste phase where u make it with comparitors and stuff. In this state u need to chcek a lot of signals and phone for comparison is just better, at leat for me. And app for Windows is just atrocious

This may partly retread territory covered elsewhere, but:

 

Apple's change won't actually do much versus what it and others have been doing before — scanning unencrypted photos headed to the cloud. The hashes used to flag photos are only for existing pics identified as CSAM, and Apple will only review the material if there are enough matches to cross a certain threshold (i.e there shouldn't be false positives). I believe the estimate was a 1 in a trillion chance of a false match. There's also been a suggestion this might actually lead to better security for your photos, since moving the photo checks on-device would make it easier for Apple to encrypt iCloud photo collections.

 

Don't forget that Google, Microsoft and others also scan cloud content for CSAM, so moving to Android might not change much if anything. Especially not when privacy on Android is worse overall (not terribly worse, but there are definitely sacrifices).

 

As for the iPhone itself...

 

First: wait until September. Apple is expected to introduce its next iPhone line (the 12s, 13, or whatever it's called) around then, and it'll likely include significant improvements to camera technology, performance and screens.

 

It does sound like you'd want a Pro variant of the iPhone, whatever you get. LiDAR is very helpful for accurate and quick object data capture, and it'll lead to better photography outside of those apps. You just won't get that on the Android side of things, at least not right now.

Must be nice studying in a place that cant provide you with the tools you need to learn.

Like yeah. We should do it manually, but it's too time consuming. So someone came up with an app for it. I'm in Slovakia, one of worst economics and highest taxes in EU and world. School system gets very little money for its needs. Even worse, I'm in "richest" region so my school gets minimum money by law( other regions are better, but this school has a good name and I have "bright future", so I will have good paying job). Not best conditions, but I have to work with what I have. At least for now. And yeah, average phone user XD.
