amsga reacted to BadSBeach in Random .gs folder appears in Android phone
It may be coming from various source apps because I just found not one but three .gs folders in my internal storage (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 512gb).

    Two .gs folders (.gs_fs0 & .gs_fs6)
with all .jpg files that, when selected, open to a stock photo icon with an exclamation point in the lower right quadrant. All of the .jpg do this.

The third .gs folder has all weird folders labels, most of which make no sense to but as someone else already mentioned, it seems Chinese in nature.

...not sure how Chinese Alibaba is, though, because that's the ONE folder/ file label that I recognize. I recently downloaded Alibaba, not Lazada but maybe the same developer, idk.

What I do know, though, is Alibaba is going byebye from my phone right now. Not worth the risk and bloatware

In a possibly unrelated side note, I also found a weird folder titled "pudding" (all lowercas) that contains 6 or 7 .try files that, when opened, appear to be encrypted. More of the same from the Alibaba app or do I have bigger problems than Alibaba with that pudding app?

Not sure if anyone else sees this but I was just searching through some content about LG TVs and notice that there were some descriptions linking to the crypto scam sites.
Not sure if it is cached or they really embedded that during the attack.

We're trying to keep this big 96-hour event open to anywhere on earth really. Most of the prize vendors are mailing directly to winners, and they have worldwide shipping. Cooler Master sent us 1 big box so we have to redistribute that, but we're more than happy to eat the shipping costs. We're just happy to have you guys participate.

Now for our smaller regular monthly contests which are only 48-hour events, we generally do paypal prizes to those overseas, but we've had exceptions to that and mailed international packages. A couple months ago we had a guy get some really nice stickers printed and he mailed them everywhere 😄

high static pressure is best but at the end of the day any fan should do. i mean people spend way too much moeny and time trying to get it just right.  there use to be 3 types of fans but now there just 2 now.  with out so way of testing the fans the specs the box says is known to lie so...

for a really complex setup it most likely need to be an  engineer to build a setup for best air flow.

It's really going to depend on which 3090's you are planning on.

    IT DOES MATTER A LOT.

For the 2X 8 Pin versions 1200W might be OK.

For the 3X 8 Pin Versions you will want some thing more than a 1200W PSU.

    Something like a EVGA T2, or P2 1600 or Corsair AXI 1600.

amsga reacted to brob in Advice on what base Operating Systems to get for multi-platform deployment
Hypervisors manage virtual machines. They host virtual machines that run o/s. A type 1 hypervisor runs on the raw hardware allocating and managing resources for the virtual machines being hosted. A type 2 hypervisor runs in a host o/s and manages virtual machines.

One possible scenario is that the machine boots a hypervisor which then runs a VM that boots Ubuntu to run the vision module and another VM that boots windows 10.

There are edge cases where a DDC is preferable to a D5 (high restriction loops, limited available space) but 99% of the time the correct answer is "D5". All the big name brand ones are much of a muchness.

Folding@home is a network of volunteer computers distributed around the world that aims to perform biomedical research with the single intent of helping to further understand and develop cures for a range of diseases such as; Alzheimer's, cancer, and Parkinson's. The exact research that is done is simulating the 'folding' of proteins in the body, this is important because the function of a protein id directly related to its physical shape. And this, when the protein is created in the body it needs to reshuffle its shape to get into the correct structure to perform its task. Many illnesses can be linked to faulty proteins in the body such as many cancers and neurological issues, along with a wide number of other general health concerns. This network if compared with the TOP500 list of supercomputers would outclass every single entry on the list, Folding@home is the world's fastest computing systems, with a speed of approximately 2.1 exaFLOPS. It is significantly faster than any compute system ever created and faster than even the fastest current such systems in the design phase.

If you are wondering what exactly has been done with all this computing power then you can check out the papers written by the scientists and researchers that use the folding network, I will warn you though many of them are very in depth reads and in turn this means they are often fairly technical.

To qualify for badges you must meet the minimum requirements for participation which for this event will be as follows minimum requirements: 500k points, 40WUs, and 20 days of activity over the course of the whole month. This is subject to change for future events as we find out what the sweet spot is to include as many people as possible but not make it too easy to just get a free badge.

    PASSKEYS! (they're really important)

Don't forget to get yourself a passkey from the link below to ensure that you hit the points requirement, the passkey is a feature that was added a while ago to the Folding Client that helps to authenticate each user on the network, an added bonus of this is the fact that it allows you to qualify for QRB(Quick Return Bonus) Points, QRBs are extra points you earn for submitting work units more quickly, such as if you have faster hardware or let the client fold full time, rather than on idle. QRB credit is awarded after 10 WUs have been submitted. You can get your passkey from the link below.

    COVID-19
COVID-19 still remains a massive prority for Foldin@Home, we are here to continue to unite with the legion of other folders from around the globe who have taken up the fight against COVID-19.

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common across the world.  These viruses can cause mild symptoms ranging from a fever and cough to more serious conditions such as severe pneumonia, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
In December 2019, a new strain of coronavirus (Sars-Cov-2) was first identified in Wuhan City, China.  This virus has now spread to affect practically every human population on the planet. It is the largest health crisis seen in 100 years and a massive global concerted effort has been launched to find a cure, a vaccine or even the simplest form of treatment. And that is where folding@home comes in, partnered with The Covid Moonshot team; the folding network is being used to find existing drugs that could prove to be an effective treatment for the virus.

This is just a PSA for the new guys here, the folding team is a small close knit community, so here's a few things I'd like you all to keep in mind. It doesn't hurt to say thank you, if someone has genuinely helped you out don't forget to drop a reaction on their posts, help others where ever you can and finally we are a team first and always.

Check your stats out here! Bare in mind it can take some time for your first WUs to appear so leave it a day or two.

amsga reacted to igormp in GeForce RTX 3090 vs GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SLI
A 3090 should be better than 2x 2080Tis due to more cuda cores, vram and being faster overall. If they're working with sparse networks, then the tensor performance will be more than double.

Also, SLI isn't a thing for machine learning, you can stack 4 different cards without SLI (2060, 2060Super, 3070 and 3080, as an example) and they'll work just fine.

SLI is only a thing for games. With compute-workloads you often don't need such precise sync, so you can just give some work for a PCIe device to do and wait for the results whenever they come back.
The NVLink in such cases is helpful because it enables the GPUs to talk to one another without needing to go through the PCIe bus, giving an extra 5~10% perf in best case scenarios.

amsga reacted to Jarsky in Is it possible to run multiple virtual machines on the same PC, all listening to the same port number?
This whole port business really depends on which way its being initiated. It sounds like your local client is reaching out to the sites, so it's the sites that need a specific and open port. Typically the other client will respond on a dynamic port. In firewalls that can be passed without any specific rules as its considered a related session.

As for the whole VM thing, most tier 2 (baremetal) hypervisor will default your VMs network config to bridged mode. In your VM Player I think it defaults to NAT or Host Only, so just change that config. That directly connects your VM to the network by sharing the hosts network port. It can then grab a network routable IP (e.g same network as your host ip) from your dhcp or you can assign it a static as if it is a physical machine. Each VM will have its own mac address generated by VM Player.

amsga reacted to WereCatf in Is it possible to run multiple virtual machines on the same PC, all listening to the same port number?
Just configure the network as bridged, instead. Each virtual-machine will have its own IP-address and will work just like a real PC, including being able to receive traffic on a specific port.

amsga reacted to dalekphalm in Is it possible to run multiple virtual machines on the same PC, all listening to the same port number?
In VMWare you can bridge the hosts (the host is the physical PC) network adapter - this will give virtual network adapters to each VM, and they can run on the same network, sharing the same physical NIC/cable.

As far as I know, there's no reason why you couldn't have any number of VM's with software running on the same port. The only major restriction there would be if you wanted to Port Forward any of them through your firewall.

    Agree with this.

Even if the drive is flagged as "uncertified" by the PERC, it doesn't mean it's not compatible. Drive certification using Dell's custom firmware on HDDs is only to validate engineering as an end-to-end supported solution via warranty. But yeah, it should still work regardless.

Hey man, worry not, your T330 is completely safe on that regard, its one of the low end offerings so there is no locked down hardware on it. You can put any SAS or SATA drive you want in that PERC no issues as long as the technology is compatible! Also, protip, make sure you keep your server with the latest bios/idrac/firmware/drivers updated. You can easily do this from iDRAC.
