aricleather got a reaction from 7850OC in What to do before switching from nvidia to amd?
My 280x just got through customs and it's time I prepared for the upgrade to a 280x from my 750 Ti. Sucks to be me, I ordered a few days before the 960
Is there anything I should do to prevent problems when I boot it up with a new GPU inside?

aricleather got a reaction from dalekphalm in [Steam Sale] Deux Ex: 125% Discount
The price would be:
price - (price * percent)
32.99 - (32.99 * 1.25)
(-8.2475) = price.
If you wanted to be super specific, and use NEGATIVE percentages:
price - (price * -percent)
32.99 - (32.99 * (-1.25))
32.99 - (-41.2375)
= 74.2275
The price would be higher if using negative percentages. In that case, though, anything on sale would have a higher price:
price - price * -percent)
5 - (5 *( -0.5))
5 - (-2.5)
= 7.5
Last time I bought something 50% off the price was lower, though...
Since the hyphen is directly next to the number it would look like a negative number, but it's obviously a minus sign. If it were a negative number it would be put into brackets.
Like how 5 - 4 doesn't equal 5 + - 4, it equals 5 + (-4). Calculators will often correct it, but it's the proper way to write negative numbers.

For music production, the powerful integrated graphics of the 4790k will be more than enough. What matters is that you have 4 cores and 8 threads for seamless playback of hundreds of tracks simultaneously. This stuff uses a lot of CPU power!
Z97 motherboard in case overclocking is your thing
8GB of RAM is enough for music production, and can easily be upgraded to 16 if necessary.
3TB of storage in a fairly fast hard drive is more than enough, no need for SSDs.
Silent case with a quieter (than stock) cooler will keep the PC noise down.
Good quality PSU, rated for much more than this system will ever use.
Top-of-the-line sound card, and high quality studio monitors for the price. A dedicated sub can also be added to the setup if necessary in the future.
^^^^^
PS- a lot of people will go for expensive headphones instead of speakers. Personally I think it is much nicer to be able to hear the sound surround you instead of it being played right into your ears, and also it is more comfortable+convenient to not wear headphones for the 8 hours a day that you will spend listening to your music production.

aricleather reacted to LinusTech in SSD's are so overrated.
SSD performance has nothing to do with boot time. Who shuts down their computers these days anyway? Modern machines sleep and wake so fast and use maybe a couple of watts when sleeping.

+1 for Stack Overflow... that place is a godsend even when programming is your job.

Personally, I started coding in Python at 11 years old or so. Am I good at it? No. I learned from very basic sites who incorporate coding into a GUI. Using it, you can kind of get a grasp of how to do basic things. One my favourites is here. You could probably find lots of tutorials on Youtube, as well.
EDIT: To impress family members, one of my latest projects was a basic text-based game where you chose a class and fought off monsters one-by-one with increasing difficulty. I refered to stack overflow alot, very helpful community there.
EDIT 2: Gaben is on code.org as one of those people who teach you concepts

If I can save $70 or more, even if it only lasts "1-2 years", I'm taking that deal.
Use G2A Shield. For an extra $1 USD or so you'll get a full refund if they key is invalid.

Simple; put a picture of the case, put it at an angle where you can't see in the window.
