What to do before switching from nvidia to amd?

aricleather

My 280x just got through customs and it's time I prepared for the upgrade to a 280x from my 750 Ti. Sucks to be me, I ordered a few days before the 960 :P

Is there anything I should do to prevent problems when I boot it up with a new GPU inside?

There shouldn't be any confliction; when I switched my 7850 to my two 770's I still had the Radeon drivers installed for the longest time and didn't experience any issues.

If you want to play it safe, you can just uninstall the GeForce drivers before you upgrade.

Just get the 14.12 driver and you'll be set.

Obviously uninstall the GeForce drivers once you have put the 280X in.

It'll boot up fine.

Uninstall the Nvidia GPU Driver with DDU.

Then install the latest available driver from AMD website. And you are ready to go.

Well first of all make a ton of system images and backups of all your files just in case.

Second, install the "omega" drivers.

Third, prepare to reinstall your drivers 10-20 times until things work, and you will probably need to try 14.9, 14.7, 14.4, or anything else until it works. This may involve doing a full clean install, which is why step one is to make backups.

Fourth, once you got everything working, enjoy your new GPU :)

The 280X is actually not better than the GTX 960. In most cases it beats the 280X while using a lot less power (1080p/1440p), the AMD always beats it in 4K resolutions though.

Show me a single benchmark where the 960 beats the 280x that's not an Nvidia optimized title.

The 280x also has 50% more vram.
