Anything done online today, there is no such thing as anonymous.  Back when there was no such thing as the internet, you don't think stores didn't track what you buy?  Data mining is part of the internet.  Now what Facebook is doing is taking it a step further.  I barely use Facebook for anything.  Its a waste of time lol.  I don't even understand how people can spend more than 10 minutes a day on it!  Does it give a person anything meaningful?

Linus Tech Tits reacted to TetraSky in Windows Update KB4056892 Bugs
According to the update history, my last "cumulative update" was installed on December 28.
Which is a duplicate of the same update that was also updated on the 12th of December.
But that one doesn't actually appear in the "uninstall update" as being installed on the 28th, instead of it shows as being installed on the 13th...
I don't even know what is going on anymore in that damn OS.

But I'm gonna assume I don't have this borked update and will keep my updates paused for a month just to be on the safe side.

Yep, that's Microsoft, also check start menu settings and turn off "show suggested apps", not sure if its version specific setting, we have it on Windows 10 pro. It does not eliminate all useless apps that Microsoft pushes but it does reduce the number.

We found that steam game shortcuts had broken in previous cumulative update 1709, existing desktop and start menu items stopped launching, we gave up and now only launch from the steam app. Windows 10 start menu has been flaky for a while.

Linus Tech Tits reacted to Boo Berry in AMD burns Intel with the best Linux Kernel patch ever ensuring that AMD CPU performance is not affected by PTI
    For those tl;dr users;

    1) PTI is meant to 'fix' Meltdown (AKA variant 3), which ONLY affects Intel's CPUs (and maybe some ARM CPUs and iDevice CPUs). AMD CPUs are not vulnerable to Meltdown.
    2) AMD (along with Intel and ARM) CPUs are vulnerable to one of the two variants of Spectre, AKA variant 1 or Spectre 1. AMD can 'fix' this in software - looks like it can't be fixed for Intel in software since the issue is at a hardware level for Intel. Also I've read that AMD is only vulnerable to Spectre 1 on Linux running a non-default kernel setting. This needs to be researched and verified. AMD CPUs are not vulnerable to variant 2 AKA Spectre 2.
    3) PTI initially flagged all x86 CPUs are "insecure" as a precaution, until it was pointed out by AMD that they're not vulnerable to Meltdown.
    4) AMD submitted a patch exempting AMD CPUs from PTI after it was known they don't need PTI enabled for AMD users (again, not vulnerable to Meltdown). There's no reason to enable PTI for AMD CPUs at the current time.
    5) Said patch has been accepted and merged by upstream, so the next releases of the Linux kernel(s) will exempt AMD CPU users from PTI being enabled.
    6) Intel CPUs are vulnerable to variant 1 (Spectre 1), variant 2 (Spectre 2) and variant 3 (Meltdown).

I don't see how this is a burn from AMD to Intel? AMD CPUs simply don't need PTI enabled for their CPUs since they're not vulnerable to Meltdown. So why enforce PTI on AMD when it clearly isn't needed?

Nobody in this thread has mocked the man for his suicidal thoughts. The person that compared him to their ex-girlfriend did so in the context of the insulting messages he sent his viewers, not the context of his tweet. One claiming they are suicidal does not automatically make them immune to criticism.

I do hope the man makes it back to a stable and sound mind, and I certainly hope he can maintain a healthy mentality once he gets there, but you cannot dismiss the irony others are seeing from a man that has wished violent and brutal deaths upon people just as little as 2-3 weeks ago.

I personally do not think twitter is the best place to voice ones depression, as there are plenty of professionals willing to help those in need (along with a ton of resources to access those professionals) but I'd much rather see him admit he has those feelings than to bottle them up and be consumed by them one day. I won't touch upon whether or not I feel it was done for attention, because it's not relevant to the thread, but I can say that his past attitude lends him very little credibility as far as sympathy goes, and I can understand why people are hesitant to take his side.

Hopefully he sees his past transgressions as something to learn from, and with a little hope, he might even be able to turn it around in the future. That's life in a nutshell.

I never liked his content as I think he was trying to go at it from a layman's perspective, which I don't like. If I'm going to watch/read reviews on something I want it to be from someone knowledgeable. If I don't understand something, I'll Google what that is and learn something more.

I find it pathetic he'd post something like that on social media. Yeah, I get it, he's going through hard times. Guess what. So are millions of other people. It's just a cry for sympathy and attention.

He likely lost his business partners for a reason. I'd bet he's partially to blame, judging on his interactions with others.
People lose business partners all the time. You don't say you're going to kill yourself. You pick up, and find another solution.

I see it as a money grab. All the points are hit. His wanting to die, lost business, but won't because of his family...so he's using them as a sympathy point. Simply pathetic.
I didn't know people had more than two
Haha, holy. That's brutal. If he treats people that way I'm surprised he still has a channel at all. Not surprising that he lost his business partners, I'd bet he treats them in much the same fashion.

Linus is an example of a YouTuber doing things right. Maybe the best Youtuber from a business perspective. He had the foresight to realize that YouTube was the next TV and build a company that could scale as the popularity increased. Today he is able to do original content like Junkyard Wars & MTV Cribs and has the professionalism to attract big Fortune 500 firms like Nvidia and Global 500 like Renalt.

In contrast Elric is an example of doing things wrong. His channel has featured no innovation and has been losing views for months now. The market is at the point where consolidation will occur and the people with weaker channels will start existing the market. TechnoBuffalo is an example of another channel that will most likely suffer a similar fate.
