Unfortunately it seems that the one group that shouldn't have the money got it. Though not surprising, I'm sure it would have been easy pickings for a government funded group as compared to someone in a basement somewhere.

That, and also the fact that I don't think gaming cards would possess any threat to them but having cards in government run datacenters that are of western origin might be one.

Pretty sure that EA made their games available on steam right?

Nah this is one of the few instances that less competition is a good thing. Steam is less shit than most of the other launchers anyways and if they go rouge it wouldn't be hard for those companies to restart their launchers. I personally don't want to deal with 5-6 launchers with some only existing to play one game

Also you guys are forgetting about xbox, they have their own launcher with gamepass as well.

Shreyas1 reacted to Commodus in Sony acquires Bungie for $3.6 billion
I'm familiar with TimeSplitters... and it was a solid game, but not a timeless classic everyone yearns to revisit. Halo was hyped up beyond its abilities, to some degree (just look at "The Library"), but it did do a lot to popularize the FPS genre on consoles, helped usher in online console multiplayer, and was critical to the Xbox's early days.

Just because you didn't like Halo as much as other people doesn't mean those people are wrong. You don't have to like the game, but you can't pretend it wasn't incredibly popular and massively influential; Bungie clearly did something right.

Gotta disagree. Apple's disgraceful Pippin console was pretty clear indicator that Apple consumers are not largely interested in gaming on Apple devices. If it wasn't clear then, the fact that Apple Arcade is currently more of a virtual graveyard that Stadia should put the nail in that coffin.

Also, I think that Halo was more than just a capable FPS. Prior to Halo we were in the Dark Ages of FPS'. There were no narrative games in that genre, and the whole industry was cranking out bland, annual rehashes of Unreal Tournament 1999, 2000. 2001, etc. Quake III Arena 1999, Quake III Team Arena 1999, 2000, etc...

Gaming was a story-free, login and shoot arena affair not unlike the modern desert of Fortnite, Apex, PUBG, Warzone, etc.

Halo was the first in a LONG time to introduce a well-crafted narrative back into the FPS genre. The narrative is 100% of why Halo is what it is. Look no further than Halo 5; It's one of the most technically competent entries in the franchise, but its story was such a pile of crap the fans rightfully hated it.

Bringing this back to SONY's acquisition of Bungie - this is why Bungie has struggled to stay relevant. The Halo 1-3 trilogy was an absolute masterpiece, and even Bungie knew that they had almost no chance of bottling that lightening ever again. ODST was garbage and basically existed to buy the studio time since they didn't really have to work much on it - they just used the Halo 3 engine and told the same story from a different angle. It was boring and slow and there was no heart in it. Reach was a genuine miracle. Bungie somehow managed to get that lightening back in the bottle and made a game that everyone loved. It added to the overall narrative in a good way and fans ate it up!

When Bungie left MS to publish Destiny, 343 picked up the Halo franchise and it did okay - I think most people liked Halo 4; it also added to the narrative and gave players something new to look forward to. (They pissed all over it in later entries but, 4 itself was fine).

In fact, Narrative was so crucial the success of Halo that players came to expect that sort of story-telling-expertise from Bungie, and when Destiny launched, everyone picked up a copy because that's what they were promised - all the original adverts were really heavy with concept of "light and dark", the dichotomy of good and evil - that sort of thing. And what we got was a total vacuum of story. In fact, Destiny ended up being a massive disappointment for most of the people to jumped in early. That's why they had to reboot 2 years into their 10-year plan and released Destiny 2, which was even worse!

Destiny is currently sustained by absolute die-hard fans. They're dedicated - they'll buy whatever Bungie makes - but it's not exactly a growing demographic and Bungie knows it. They know that Destiny isn't going to make it to 10 years, and they know that with no ace up their sleeve the franchise's days are numbered. They need an out, and they found it. If SONY will pay out $3.6 Billion then they can afford to wait out the clock.

I'll say the same thing I said about MS' acquisition of Activision Blizzard. These developers are looking at the writing on the wall and they know that the future doesn't look good for them so when MS offered them a golden parachute they took it - they would have been fools not too! SONY just made the same mistake. Bungie doesn't have a bright future, and they just saw an opportunity to get out while the gettin' is good.

I guess, in SONY's defense... they spent substantially less than MS so they didn't get ripped off as badly.

Gamepass is already a really good deal, I don't get why they would add more to that unless they're planning on increasing the price soon. I especially don't get why they're going after Activision after the whole controversy, but maybe they realized it's a cheaper this way. If activision is found guilty, does MS have to pay the price?

Activision/Blizzard games haven't been good in a while, maybe a change of ownership will help. I mean a lot of MS games were good this year, like Halo and Forza.

Blizzard has proven time and time again that it can't run it's self. Activision hasn't been able to turn it around. Hopefully Microsoft can "help" AB.

Shreyas1 reacted to Spotty in ThioJoe created anti spammer bot which automatically deletes spammer comments and bans scammers, with a near 100% accuracy.
The report category on the LTT forum is "Bot spam" even though almost all of the spam on the forum is posted by actual people just copying and pasting off a script. It might not be correct but people will immediately recognise the type of spam you're referring to when you say "bot spam". It's also a really good way to differentiate between different types of "spam", whether that's [bot] spam (malicious spam/scams/dodgy links/fake websites/etc), advertising (someone promoting a legitimate website, referral links, or some kid promoting their minecraft youtube channel to get more views), or post spam (flooding a bunch of similar or pointless messages).

For example these are two types of spam posted on LTTs latest video...

Both I would consider to be spam, but if someone said "bot spam" I'd immediately know they were referring to the first example.

^ this. What ThioJoe's script is trying to do is stop a certain type of spam comments, whether it's posted by a person or bot is irrelevant to the goal or how the script functions.

I don't think ThioJoe's script is going to have any real impact on spam on youtube, even for channels using it. It might make things a little bit easier for content creators when it comes to cleaning up the spam on their videos but in the grand scheme of things it's going to do absolutely nothing to stop the spammers, especially if they're quick to adapt to bypass filters and change tactics. It's unlikely that spammers will give up if it becomes too difficult. Either they won't even notice or care that their comments are being removed after posting them or they'll switch to more elaborate and deceptive methods to bypass detection.

I do hope that this will at the very least shine a spotlight on Youtube's inadequate spam prevention and force Youtube to actually give proper tools to creators to help fight spam. It's unbelievable to me that Youtube knows exactly what video to recommend to me at 1am to keep me watching just a little bit longer but has no idea how to detect and delete very obvious spam accounts that are going around to dozens of channels posting the same obvious spam messages.

A good start would be by youtube giving creators an option that reports an account for spam to youtube, bans them from commenting on their channel, and deletes all of their previous comments on the channel all in one click. Accounts should have trust ratings and if enough creators report the account it should require Youtube to suspend/restrict the accounts ability to post or automatically place their comments on channels in the "possible spam" approval queue that require the creators approval to be made visible on the channel at least until the account is reviewed by youtube or additional account verification is provided. Those tools really need to come from Youtube though and that won't happen until Youtube takes proper responsibility for spam on their platform.
