Mr.Sir reacted to kb5zue in extreme lag spikes
I'm glad that you got it figured out. The SSHD drives have been around for a while but I really don't know how long. If you look at the fine print on the drive, there should be a date of manufacture on it somewhere. The SSHD didn't really go over too well because about the time things got good, the SSD came out and that more or less smothered the SSHD. They were an interesting idea but being bastardized the way they were didn't really go over too well with a lot of people. That's technology for you.
If you were located somewhere close, I have a bunch of HDD's lying around in my stash of parts and I would give you one just to get rid of it but that's the way it goes. But like I said, I'm glad you got it figured out.
BTW, the cost of SSD's is coming down so you might want to consider adding something along the line of a 2TB SSD to your system. They really perk things up in the overall scheme of things.
Good Luck
Have a blast while you last... Hollis Stacy

Mr.Sir reacted to imreloadin in disabling HT on 4770k
Does your BIOS Show this above the menu options? Are you able to click on the blue HT icon? It'd be a dumb place to put that setting but try clicking on it and see if it grays out or something🤷♂️

Mr.Sir reacted to Electronics Wizardy in disabling HT on 4770k
games are programs...
also games normally will preform the same or better with ht on, so no reason to turn it off.
In sysconfig in windows you can disable logical cores.

Mr.Sir reacted to Eigenvektor in Hdmi 2.0 w/ DP 1.2
https://www.displayninja.com/acer-vg271-review/
If you read the review, FreeSync, HDR and VRB don't work at the same time. And apparently it can only do HDR over HDMI.

Mr.Sir reacted to Eigenvektor in Hdmi 2.0 w/ DP 1.2
Sounds to me like the person was talking about using two different monitors at the same time. One connected to DP and one connected to HDMI. "Duplicate monitors" means both show the same image instead of a separate one. But that's not really related to HDR and 144 Hz in any way?

Mr.Sir got a reaction from jctappel67 in Gaming Monitor 144Hz Under 230$
Idk, its really just preference, but for gaming I tend to like bright TN panels with really fast response time. VA and IPS is slower, but probably not noticeable

Mr.Sir got a reaction from jctappel67 in Gaming Monitor 144Hz Under 230$
these are very dim panels, although the panel type can be better it may not be with how dim they are. In some situations TN can be as visually pleasing and close to color accurate, sorta, to VA/IPS. The one I pasted is 350 nits

Mr.Sir got a reaction from Rigar84 in would it be worth the money to upgrade from a gx 980 to a RTX 2080 fro Widescreeen ?
get 1080ti, 2080 doesn't have anything more than price, except Ray tracing (which is completely useless imo)
you can find used ones for ~ $600

Mr.Sir got a reaction from Origami Cactus in Upgrading current setup, thoughts and tips?
really good cpu but maybe if you're thinking about streaming go with the 2700x from AMD.
it has more cores for tasks like that and it is better for video editing

Mr.Sir reacted to WoodenMarker in is bronze safe ?
Unless you're getting the most power hungry RX 600 series card, loading a custom bios, and pushing a heavy oc, you'll be perfectly fine with your current psu. For a point of reference, your current system probably pulls ~200w under full load.

Who in their right mind would use an OLED monitor for a PC, the task bar would instantly burn in

Mr.Sir got a reaction from Ryujin2003 in rx 580 for 1440p 60hz
would the $100 upgrade to an 1070 be really that much a difference?
-
Mr.Sir reacted to SliceT in 11/20xx series Nvidia
If you can, dont buy anything new, its not worth it.
A year ago you could buy a 580 for 200$, not its over 400?
Just wait and see what happens.

kk go used or maybe a 1070 if you have decent prices. For used, go fury/390x/980/980Ti

Mr.Sir reacted to JoostinOnline in 3770k 1080p gaming
The 3770k is better than the 2700k. By around 5-10%.
There will always be a bottleneck. It's impossible to find a perfect balance, because every game is different. One component will always be stressed more than the other. The 980 Ti and a 3770k is pretty good pairing though.
-
Mr.Sir reacted to PorkishPig in upgrade
Your 3470 is perfectly suitable for use with modern cards at 1080p. I would suggest that you look for a $200-ish GTX 980 instead.
