cpu/gpu help

Mr.Sir

I have an 1155 Z68 motherboard, I plan to game at 1080p and need a sufficient cpu, I was thinking of the 2600k, but I don't know if that would be enough for gaming, would a 3770k be better?

the 2600k would be about $100 on eBay vs the 3770k @ $200.

I'm fine with overclocking a tad.

also I have a free sync monitor @ 144hz, would a used rx 580 be a  good choice at this date, or should I wait for the 600 series to release (or maybe the 20xx series)

The 2600k would be plenty for gaming, the 580 used would still be around $300, so it depends on if you really need freesync, because a new 1060 6gb costs about the same and has a warranty.

Try using the PSU Tier List!

How to reset the bios/clear the cmos

My current rig:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x

Ram: 1x16gb DDR4, 2x8gb DDR4

Storage: 1tb nvme ssd

GPU: gtx 3080

Monitor: 23.8" Dell S2417DG 144hz g-sync 1440p + 27" Acer S271HL 60 Hz 1080p

Keyboard: ducky one I | I SF

Mouse: gpro wireless | glorious model o2 wireless

Sound : beyerdynamic 1990 pro | Monoprice liquid spark (amp) + topping d10 (dac)

It might be hard to find a used 1070 for $400, but I don't doubt that you could.  I don't see why not, but if you can find a rx 580 8gb for under $300, go for it, because it will still be a few months until prices normalize.

I'd go with a 2600k, or maybe an Ivybridge Xeon if the board is Ivybridge.

it's ivy bridge

Xeon E3-1240, it's about $60 on ebay, I have one and just because of my old CPU's architecture (piledriver) the Xeon WAY outperforms it.

The 580 is pretty much the equivalent of Nvidia’s 1080. It’s really good.

E3-1280 or i7-2700k are going to be the best price/perf chips.

The E3-1280 can run with a 105mhz BCLK giving 3675mhz base speed, 3780mhz all core turbo, and 4095mhz max turbo.  Adjustments to voltages are usually not needed.

i7-2700k can be overclocked to ~4.5ghz at least without much drama.

E3-1280 will be just below Ryzen 4c/8t levels of performance in gaming with the overclock.

i7-2700k ends up a hair faster than that.

RX 580 is about the same as a GTX 1060, marginally slower in some cases and marginally faster in others.

what about the 3570k?

Don't, you will regret it.  4c/4t is not going to cut it.  Going to 4c/8t can result in better performance even with slightly lower clocks.

Its good for 1080p in most if not all cases.  If you can get a 6gb GTX 1060 for cheaper, do that instead, only mentioning this because AMD GPU's have not seen prices drop off as much as the GTX 1060 yet.

I just got an Rx 580 4gb nitro+ for $240, 8gb 480's go for less quite often as well.  You can even snag a 1080 for around 400 - 550 if you watch closely

Go to r/hardwareswap and don't be a dunce (no friends and family, check ban list before buying)

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

in general would it be worth it to upgrade from to a 2600k vs 3470s im looking on benchmarks and its not that much of a difference, i could alternatively choose a more expensive gpu, or would that be a problem?

For actual gaming more threads will help in 1% lows, so less stuttering under heavy load even if the average is very similar.  2600K can also overclock significantly, nearly 1ghz over the base clock.
