In that situation, you're definitely going to see a benefit from buying an RTX 2080. I wouldn't personally go lower end since you'll probably be using the card for a few years and in that case, it's usually best to buy the best thing you can afford. With that being said, in my opinion, the RTX 2080 Ti is definitely not worth the ~60% increase in price for the ~30% increase in performance.

Hi I know a lot about different computer hardware and about both of these graphics cards. I was just curious from everyone else's prospective is it really worth it to get a $800 RTX 2080 over my GTX 980 ?  I upgraded my whole pc about a year ago and  I know that my gpu is what is holding me back. I can get a gtx 2080 ti but I just can't see myself spending $1,200 on a graphics card. Fallout 76 is one of the main reasons aside from other games that are noticeably hitting a bit that and my gpu get a little loud for me when  I game. I may also change my PSU with it being out of warranty even though it still runs great, with all this hardware I just don't want something to go wrong.

1. What resolution? 1080p or 1440p?

2. You will most likely get a huge fps boost. 980 to 2080 is more than x2 fps performance.

3. If 1200 is too much, even a 2070 (or 1080) will be +80% performance~

higher res = more GPU bound ^^

Which means, you should still be in GPU Limit for most games, and the GPU should give you a huge boost. Even a 2070 will. But 2080 will be a bit more.

That would be a good reason to ditch the 980, it's not much of a 1440p card anymore.

No you mentioned it. Just others didn’t read your post completely. I would go used 1080ti if you can. Here in Canada you can find them at 1/2 the price as a new rtx 2080

get 1080ti, 2080 doesn't have anything more than price, except Ray tracing (which is completely useless imo)

you can find used ones for ~ $600
