So I feel like an idiot, sorry for wasting your time.

I tried calling my ISP a few times today but they had several hour long hold times.  I tried back just as I posted this and got through.  Discover moved my card to a different (higher level card) a few months ago and I must have had this bill on autopay on the card because they said my account was past due which coincided with the time my new card arrived.  I didn't think I had anything on it that was autopay.

anyway.  I am surprised I could change to googles DNS and still get a decent number of sites with suspended service.

Is this over DSL or Cable? Get your ISP to run a line check on it.

Does your ISP have any router settings you can access?
    1. Type cmd in the windows search bar and click on the first result
    2. Run the command 'ipconfig/all'
    3. Find you IP adress (should be on the second line of Default Gateway)
    4. Put that into a browser and search
    5. If the website asks for administrator passwords, it should be written on the sticker on your router

Im betting its the ISP. Frontier is a SHIT ISP from what I have read. They took over Verizon DSL and Fiber services in several states and fucked it up pretty bad. Id contact them and have a tech out.

You can create an array and then add another array to the first. So if you have a RAID Z2 array you could add a second RAID Z2 array to create a single volume without erasing the first array (so you would end up with two RAID Z2 arrays and four redundant drives), but you couldn't add any drives to the first RAID Z2 array without formatting it.

What is your current CPU not providing you that a new CPU would?

You have an unlocked i5 that is only one generation old, apparently running stably while overclocked fairly well.

Is spending $300+ worth an extra few fps that you more than likely won't notice? If you're doing more than gaming, then sure, more cores/threads may be beneficial. If all you need from the system is gaming performance, I personally don't see the value in upgrading the CPU for an extra 3-5% performance. I'd turn down settings loooong before I'd drop cash on a new CPU.

where are you getting that 70c is high?

70c is a very safe temp for just about any chip including a 1700.  Ryzen does not throttle until 95c and if this was obtained through a stress test its highly unlikely you will ever reach that temp in real life usage.

If its less than 80 in a stress test you are fine ... you're fine even higher than that, but its up to your level of risk, but 70 is nothing.

You have plenty of thermal headroom.  Anything below 75 C is extremely safe.  Throttling occurs at 95 C, so I would aim for a 24/7 overclock at around 70-80 C tops.

Just be mindful and don't add more voltage than you need.

probably not in gaming performance, but if you are budget focused and have to buy a mid range graphics card, you wont see much difference in framerates, and you will be paying 80 dollars less. not to mention if you get faster memory (3200+) it will outperform the intel equivalent

Bakerking31 reacted to Speaker1264 in I think I screwed the pooch by buying an R7 1700.
Basically AMD confirmed that the Windows Scheduler was not a problem, and that optimizations for Ryzen needed to be made by the game developers.  Besides that though, the major problem is that AMD uses two 4 core/8 thread CCXs, but many games see it as a single 8 core/16 thread CPU, and some see it as a 16 core CPU, causing lower performance, because if the game is using some cores on one CCX and some on the other, then there is an added latency penalty, causing lower framerate.

If the games are programmed and optimized to know that Ryzen uses 2 CCXs and try to reduce cross-talk between the two CCXs then there will be a lot better performance overall.  And in some games that only utilize 4 cores, you can even use a program called Process Lasso to make sure that the game is only using the 4 cores from the same CCX, eliminating the latency problems altogether.  It's not ideal, but it works.

Hopefully game developers work with AMD and optimize their games properly for Ryzen, but we shall see.  Even still though, the difference really isn't as big as some people are making it out to be.

By AMD's own admission, single-threaded performance should be 19% worse than Kaby Lake while using stock clock for both.  If they admit to a 19% deficit, I think we all know it's quite a bit higher.

Or maybe it's just because of the relatively low clock speed compared to the 7700k which is what's causing it to lag behind in gaming.

Anyway, yes gotta wait for more sources of course but just to say this looks very very promising for Ryzen, it looks like the BEST CPU overall and even gaming in 2017
