In what way? Those are 2 very different machines, and you haven't stated a use case. Without that it's not really possible to compare them.

IMO the 250 plan is fine. Better can be nice, but it doesn't sound like you really need that much speed. If it turns out that you do need more you can always upgrade later.

I wrote my first 64-bit code in C on the first systems built using this chip, one quarter of a century ago.

There are students everywhere in need of devices, more now than ever before. I'm sure that you could find someone who genuinely needed it by posting it on Facebook or something if you didn't get the chance to get to Free Geek.

I mean, if you don't have a use for it why keep it? If you want to sell it then do so, but if you want to donate it then do what @Bitter and @Schnoz said and donate it more directly. I also do some work in refurbishing computers for students, and these older Core i-series machines are perfect for a student to use for online learning.

While I definitely don't see that machine as being old or retro, you should be able to sell it. I sold a couple of those for $60 each a few months ago. If you donate it they'll likely at least wipe the hard drive, so I wouldn't put any time into setting up the OS.

There is always a risk driver wise that could cause issues and complicate things. I personally always advocate to reinstall fresh with major hardware changes like a CPU/Motherboard.

ProjectBox153 got a reaction from Letgomyleghoe in AM2 motherboard, what's a "cd1" header and what kind of extension cable would I need to use it ? (also USB?)
I feel old. You don't need to worry with the CD1 connector. That's for CD audio, and you aren't likely going to need it. As for the red connector, that's USB for the front panel ports. The connector with a single row of pins (the second picture) should be for the card reader. It connects to a USB header, it just only uses half of the pins as it's a single device.

Uhhhhh no, that's not how that works. I don't know if it's a fake or not, but it looks suspicious to me. I wouldn't buy it.
Yeah, that's a fake card. If you buy it you'll be throwing your money away.

Honestly the lifespan of a hard drive just depends on too many things to be able to say for sure. I've got a few drives from the 80s (one is a 30MB drive from an IBM PS/1 and the other is a 10MB SCSI drive used with a Macintosh SE) that are still running fine, but they've been kept in decent condition by their previous owners.

It was bulkier and not as easy to connect and disconnect, so that could be a reason. I don't remember. But yeah, some of the oldest SATA drives did have molex power connectors, though they also had regular SATA power connectors as well.
