AM2 motherboard, what's a "cd1" header and what kind of extension cable would I need to use it ? (also USB?)

So I'm rebuilding this old Athlon 64 X2 'prebuilt' but now I have changed the motherboard (to ASUS M2NS-NVM/S) I'm not quite sure I can plug in every cable / component, as mentioned in the title there's a header on the mobo "cd1" and I think I know what it is but the cable is too short - I also have no idea how to remove the whole cage where the DVD player is installed, that would probably help routing the cable differently, but as is I need to know what the cable is called and if there are extension cables for it?

And bonus question: what are those? 

 

 

I think the red one is USB? and the small white one I think is "line in" which I curiously don't see on this motherboard??

CD header was used back when CD readers/writers had ability to play wav files directly without any assistance from CPU or computer itself, that header was used for transmitting audio directly to speakers (IIRC). Tingled some memories with that.

It looks like an old style header for Audio to CD.

 

Its obsolete these days as everything travels via sata.

Ok yeah I thought it's probably *not* for CD, but then the name otherwise doesn't make much sense... 

 

But then the question is still, what's the first white plug for? it looks like it's for the card reader at the front, but could be wrong (tho three aren't a lot of other options tbh) and that looks like this motherboard just doesn't support a card reader?

 

 

Also the red one is probably usb, but I think the port where it leads to is called "fire wire" so is this basically just usb then?

I feel old. You don't need to worry with the CD1 connector. That's for CD audio, and you aren't likely going to need it. As for the red connector, that's USB for the front panel ports. The connector with a single row of pins (the second picture) should be for the card reader. It connects to a USB header, it just only uses half of the pins as it's a single device.

Ah I see, thanks, I think I know then.. but I'm not quite sure this board has actually enough headers for everything, like there are a lot of empty spots where simply nothing is soldered - kind of weird, I don't even know if I could just solder in these parts and if they would be functional then - like for example sata plugs, fan headers, and indeed several "usb" headers.

I wouldn't even bother. There are many variations of boards like that used in different types of machines. That's an HP system, right?

Yeah, HP Pavilion... yeah I didn't think it would be too complicated to replace the board but I see I'll probably have a few functions missing (like the card reader)

 

I mean otherwise I'd just need a better board probably?  Problem is the matx boards I saw are all kinda like this (cheap looking) 

 

I also got a M2N-SLI "deluxe" which looks way better - but it's ATX, I really wanted to use this old HP case, with Vista installed, but I can already imagine it's gonna be a pain to find the right drivers and stuff (hope im wrong lol)

I used to have the M2N-SLI Deluxe it was a cracking board.  U should be able to get the drivers for that board off the net no problem.
