I have a tricked out dell optiplex 7010. It has a gtx1080ti and an intel xeon 6 core cpu! It isn't too bad i'm sure many have worse!

So you're trying to tell me you went though the effort to swap either an HEDT or newer Xeon into an 7010 with a 1080Ti, which would basically require modifying the front panel header if you don't want to jank it up? Like I love me some 7010, but that's starting to push it.

I mean... Yes, you kinda do if you want proper operation. The front panel header on 7010's pretty much requires either modification or a hell of a lot of bodge wires to work with a standard board.

Nah that's fucking sick lol this generation of Optiplex is one of my favourite. If OP did actually shove in an HEDT platform and 1080ti then massive kudos to them, that's awesome haha.

Don't get me wrong, it's my second-favorite gen too (think the all-black one that followed it might be #1), but I sure as hell wouldn't bother. Airflow in these isn't all that great even though it looks like the should be pretty OP.

were did you get swapping mb from? he just said he put a 6core xeon and a gtx 1080 ti.

You cannot get a six core chip in a 7010 without swapping the board. It literally is not possible.

i'm pretty sure the 7010 only supports low profile PCI cards aswell, right? wouldn't that mean a 1080Ti is out of the question aswell?

There’s a minitower version but it’d have to be a smaller model.

 

Regardless of which form factor you get, airflow is deceivingly garbage.
