Ryujin2003 reacted to givingtnt in Best mac for programming
tbh, I recovered a 2011 macbookpro (pre-retina) and it works well for any kind of programming I've been doing.
Coding doesn't require much other than a good keyboard and good monitor for text sharpness.

why do you believe a mac to be a nessecity ? the hardware/manufacturer doesn't matter much when it comes to this, since all you do is basically type in whatever text editor you preffer.

You would be much better off spending less money on something as adequate for the job, with potentially a better keyboard (say Asus zenbook ?)
Unless you already have a mac and are used to that, but judging by the hackintosh comment, it doesn't seem like it.

You can swap your PS4 hard drive, its not tied to anything. Its simple and easy upgrade and actually the most recommended change on the PS4.

Ryujin2003 reacted to WereCatf in Nvidia DLSS only works on some resolutions
That explanation they gave is...misleading. A simple way of increasing the GPU-load is to simply...disable vsync/gsync/freesync. No, the reason for this limitation is that those tensor-cores can't handle high FPS -- if they let you turn on DLSS when the GPU isn't already taxed to the max, you'd quickly notice your FPS tanking simply because those tensor-cores ain't fast enough. If your FPS is already low(-ish), enabling DLSS won't hurt anymore and it'll seem like it's magically increasing your FPS instead.

Basically, NVIDIA wants to limit DLSS-usage only to situations where it won't hurt the technology's reputation.

Ryujin2003 reacted to Alex Atkin UK in Ninintendo switch hackers release gpu overclocking utility
I've read a bit on this and a few developers are saying that overclocking the GPU causes HUGE increases in heat output, whereas overclocking the CPU is not even a measurable difference.

One developer who overclocked both without any thermal management (as he was using Linux) had his battery bulge.

So I'd be rather wary as I highly suspect Nintendo chose these clocks to protect the battery both from power and heat damage.

Might be useful in docked mode but I would imagine the thing is already hot enough and battery life would be destroyed in hand held mode

    But....but.....my 5GHz boost
    *eye roll*

If people really thought a 12 core/24 thread chip like that was going to magically jump up to 5GHz boost then I've got a few swamps and bridges to sell. People got their hopes way too high due to one or two news outlets hyping up a bunch of BS and now people are going to turn their anger to AMD directly because leaks by other people are going to somehow be AMD's fault.

For the record, I think AMD has done an awesome job with Ryzen and hopefully pushes things further with Ryzen 2, I'm just tried of all this smoke being blown about some magic chip that's going to save us from the darks of Intel. I'll wait for benchmarks but I could see it being that AMD might not even need to hit anywhere near a 5GHz boost to give Intel even more run for their money and I hope they keep pushing because I want them to make Intel sweat hard.

    Ryujin2003 reacted to S w a t s o n in AMD SUED!
Basically a jury of 12 normies has to decide what a CPU core is. AMD went for a different approach than SMT (AMD went CMT) and it resulted in FX. If they insist only intel gets to define what a core is they should take a long walk off a short pier

Ryujin2003 reacted to porina in Judge Allows Lawsuit Over AMD's FX Processors to Continue
From an outside perspective, if we didn't know what was going on inside the CPU, it would appear to have the claimed number of cores. I've never owned or tested one, but if I understand correctly, these were modules, each module containing two integer units (cores) and one shared FP unit. If you run only integer code, it scaled with cores. If you run FP code one per module, it would scale with module. Beyond that, sharing becomes a limit and you don't see further uplift. It isn't that code doesn't work at all, but a question of performance.

We can look back to Intel in the 386 and earlier era, where the FPU was not a standard inclusion in the CPU. I'm not sure without looking it up, it wasn't until either 486 or Pentium that a FPU was included as standard. So we kinda have some precedent to a CPU core not needed a FPU and still be counted as such. For those CPUs without FPU, the instructions were emulated at significantly lower performance.

The only danger to this argument is that multi-threading within a single CPU core also looks kinda similar, although in this case the performance may drop for any code sharing the same core.
When it comes to legal cases, it will be won or lost on legal interpretations, not common sense ones. Like the successful lawsuits against HD manufacturers for correctly using size modifiers, whereas the fault of the misunderstanding was the way operating systems reported capacity.

I know for many years, decades even, AMD was behind Intel on CPU speeds/core/wattage/etc. but without AMD as a competitor, even an inferior one (at the time anyway) Intel would not have improved as much as they did, not keep their prices in line.

I say this as someone who prefers Intel, but have had a number of AMD systems, including an FX-6300 which worked just fine as a gaming rig.

Having said that, if AMD cheated on core count, then they should be rightly hauled into court over it.

Fear no More! Gigabyte has you covered like none other does!

Now you can afford the i9 9900K beast by cheapening out at your motherboard and memory like never before! Introducing the Amazing, The one of a kind! Unique! the very first and hopefully the last DDR3 9th gen motherboard the Gigabyte H310M DS2V DD3 MicroATX.

You're too good for Intel's 14nm chipsets? Go back to the amazing 22nm recycled H310M chipset! That DDR3 1333mhz memory already used with your ancient FX CPU? if it works it works right? throw that in your case and order your i9 9900K already, don't forget you'll need a cooler so grab a Pentium Stock Cooler for maximum cringe goodness!

You'll have that sweet bragging rights of the worlds fastest mainstream CPU on the biggest bottleneck scenario ever, VRM and powerphases throttling? insufficient memory bandwidth all this won't matter when you can show off your CPU-z to those Ryzen users peasants! Do not waste another minute and order yours already!

"According to the official site, the Intel 9900K supports DDR4-2666 memory. It turns out that the Gigabyte H310M DS2V DDR3 micro ATX motherboard will allow users to run the same CPU with DDR3 memory instead. The motherboard is going to release soon and it supports DDR3-1333 to DDR3-1866."

Powerline Adapters tend to be sorta crap in my admittedly limited experience - they could work for you if you are willing to sink the money to test em. It entirely depends on the Wiring in both layout and quality of your House though.
