Whenever I see thermalright my brain auto changes it to thermaltake and there's a big difference, thermaltakes stuff in general kinda sucks and thermalright is generally pretty good

The least expensive one that is kind of from a name brand and decent would be a behringer um2 https://www.sweetwater.com/c695--Interface_USB

2023 is when TSMCs new fab in Arizona is supposed to open and 2024 for Samsung, then those chips need to make it through the supply chain from board partners like MSI and EVGA. so I think mid-late 2024.

I remember when they said this would be resolved by the beginning of 2021

Granted this is my personal experience but I had an HP envy FROM Costco that I bought in 2016 and it proceeded to shit the bed after a year, it would blue screen all the time and eventually the DAC broke so the sound was really cracklely, I ended up buying a Dell G5 about a year ago, and so far it's been great

Yeah, 4 gigs is really basically unusable in my experience, with all the programs I have running in the background of my PC, I'm generally at 4-6 gigs without doing anything, 8 is going to help a lot

I would stick in a proper pcie wifi card, usb wifi cards are pretty terrible compared to pcie ones, I had this one (http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GC-WB867D-I-Bluetooth-Adapter-Computer/dp/B00HF8K0O6/ref=sr_1_9?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1465191814&sr=1-9&keywords=wifi+card) in my computer and it was pretty good. If you want to let him use your internet, you are probably going to need something like this
and that is if you have a line of sight between your two places. If he would use an open network, I would suggest buying a vpn and running all of his traffic through that, (I use private internet access and I really like it.)

pcie 3.0 4x, is fine for a eGPU, According to AMD, you can run crossfire just fine on pcie 2.0 8x per card, which is the exact same and pcie 3.0 4x, but your still talking close to 8 times usb 3's bandwidth for thunderbolt 3, so I honestly don't see the point of doing an eGPU over usb 3.

Asus has a couple decent ones in the price range, xps is quite a bit more expensive, and they don't often have a dedicated GPU, haven't checked out MSI yet though.

honestly the first thing that comes to mind is your fan motor might be dying on your GPU or your GPU could be full of dust, so this is causing your gpu to overheat. Have you tried blowing on your GPU or using canned air on the heatsink to see if there is a bunch of dust in it? I honestly doubt its PCIe because PCIe slots rarely fail unless they are physically damaged. Does your mobo have another pcie 16x slot that you can try your GPU in for a few days and see if this behavior continues?
