NelizMastr got a reaction from Dutch_Master in Old office HP Elitedesk Gen 3 for home server?
It does have quicksync, being an Intel unit, but even a 3rd gen HP Elitedesk (which means it's skylake) will only transcode h264 at best.

NelizMastr reacted to Chris Pratt in Mhz or Cl?
Yes, total latency matters, but that is composed from the clock cycle time (clockspeed) and the clock latency.  The total latency of 3600MHz CL18 is the same as than 3200MHz CL16, but you get better overall performance with 3600MHz, obviously because of the higher clockspeed. This is why I also said the better thing to get is 3600MHz CL16, which beats both, and doesn't really come at much if any additional cost.

NelizMastr got a reaction from jaslion in Apu with gpu
If you add a dGPU to an APU system, the onboard video will usually be disabled. And if not, it will not be used,
unless you keep your monitor plugged into the ports on your motherboard instead of your dGPU.

There will be no bottlenecks to speak of. The 4650G and 3600 are very similar, CPU wise.

NelizMastr got a reaction from WhitetailAni in My points in cinebench r23
Keep in mind Cinebench is a benchmark for running Cinema4D. It says nothing about gaming performance at all, it simply says something about raw CPU performance, relatieve to other CPUs tested, which can be extrapolated to overall CPU performance.

This score places it just below a typical Ryzen 5 3600, which the 4600G is based on.

NelizMastr got a reaction from Curesto in R9 280X vs Vega 11. Which one is faster?
Despite being almost 10 years old, the 280X (which is a 7970 from 2012) has enough horsepower to easily sail past the vega11.

Keep in mind though that there are a handful of games that will run on a Vega11 but not a 280X due to the implementation of the DX12 feature set.

NelizMastr got a reaction from Kumar114 in CPU temps reaching 100°C on laptop
If your ambient temps are over 25c, a thin gaming laptop will never function properly with boost enabled.
It's also in part due to Intel spec rating the chip for 35W while it consumes more than double which also
    means increased heat output.

You could try repasting the CPU, if it doesn't use a crappy shared heatsink/heatpipe system that the GPU is also using to dump its heat.
Ideally they have separate cooling systems.

Current Nvidia drivers don't support these ancient GPUs anymore, so you probably want to install the non-nvidia version of PopOS and install the drivers yourself, seems the latest with support is https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/156163/en-us

NelizMastr got a reaction from WhitetailAni in My intel (r) hd graphics driver not showing the number
You have the original HD Graphics, it didn't have a number. This was the first integrated graphics chipset to use the HD Graphics name.
The numbering didn't start until the next generation, HD3000.

There probably isn't a newer driver. This chipset is over 10 years old

NelizMastr reacted to Lurick in Hardware recommendations for a Proxmox server
Slower but cheaper RAM, you can use any drive in there you want, you don't have to stick with HDDs or buy from a list of particular drives just so long as they are 2.5" drives for the 600 series. If you want 3.5" drives then you'll just need to go with the R700 series instead. You can usually pick up a R620 with 64GB of RAM for around $300 to $500. They can take up to 384GB of DDR3 RAM. The R630 on the other hand uses DDR4 memory so that might be a bit more expensive but usually you can get that for decent prices too.

Is it an option to just recycle it and get something new? It sounds like a poorly built machine if it can break that easily.

Generally more stable, and since zfs is doing raid it can use checksums for fixing file integrity, doesn't require an initialization, only rebuilds data. Nice cmd interface. Thats what Id use here.

Thats your problem. Those are smr drives and will be very slow in raid.

Id reaally just get a single larger hdd here instead of raid. Why not just get a single 4tb hdd.

NelizMastr got a reaction from RockSolid1106 in Port forwarding minecraft server on ubuntu with Google domains DNS help
Probably, yes. Afaik the firewall in Ubuntu is off by default, although you could try sudo ufw disable to disable it.
By the way, the port will only report as open if there's something listening on that port, so your Minecraft server needs to be running.

NelizMastr reacted to RockSolid1106 in A system that detects titles with just the word "HELP" and warn the OP?
I am talking about these kinds of titles:
The titles which contain just "Help" or "Help me please" or "Help needed", "HELP URGENT" and similar stuff.

    The Problem
They just don't provide any context about the issue(fairly obvious, duh). So, one has to click the topic, and then read the description to understand. Someone like me, just doesn't bother clicking on it.
On the other hand if the title describes the issue well, one can simply, based on the title, decide whether its something that he/she can answer. If not, just carry on.

    What could be done:
Some filtering system could be implemented, which detects if the title contains just the word "Help" or something like that. If a title does contain, a warning could be displayed, like so:

Yes, I do know that this is a very small issue/suggestion, but it should help people get help better.

NelizMastr got a reaction from PlenumRated in VMWare ESXi 6.0 host hard shutting down every few days
The old C client cannot be used with 6.7 or 6.5 beyond U1. Since version 6.5U2 the webUI isn't using flash anymore but full HTML5.
Features specific to 6.0 and beyond are also not available when not using the webUI, so this is a good time to switch.

Keep in mind you should do the upgrade to 6.5/6.7 with the specific HPE custom image from VMware, don't use the generic update
tooling i.e. via SSH, as you'll miss out on some HPE specific drivers and fixes.

NelizMastr got a reaction from BloodKnight7 in VMWare ESXi 6.0 host hard shutting down every few days
Update the iLO to the latest available version on all hosts, that should fix most bugs.
I've also seen a certain version of the iLO driver for ESXi cause crashes. Updating to the latest version
available for ESXi 6.0 should fix that (or upgrading to ESXi 6.5/6.7 using the HPE customised image for the G6/G7).
