Been using it for 2 days now, I gotta say the colors POP they are so beautiful, never had a monitor like this.  The weird colors I mentionned was because I had HDR on which generally I don't like.  This monitor is so bright I had to go dark theme on every site.  But it looks amazing.  Gsync works great, buttery smooth framerate.  My only criticism so far, and this only applies because I work remotely, is that the stand is not as wide as some other monitors so on a standing desk it wobbles more than the LG monitors.

As an update I've purchased the MSI recommended above.  So far so good, however in-game I can definitely see what y'all were saying with the colors being a bit weird.  I'll try to calibrate it a bit

Personally I was going to go for ryzen, but I can't bring myself to lower my FPS in games just to save a few dollars. And I don't need 12 threads, so I think I'm going to go for an i5.  Unless ryzen + beats coffee lake in games next year

I just put the cheapest 500gb SSD I could find at the time but I was rushing it so that can be changed.

The question is can you cap your GPU's frame output.  Yes, just get a program like Rivatuner statistics server or afterburner.  If your GPU is powerful enough to never go below 60 fps, or if you cap it at 55 it never goes below that, then theoretically the way I understand it you shouldn't see any tearing and it should be a smooth experience

Honestly (and tell me if I'm wrong), but I think MOST builders go overboard with their PSU's when building a system.  For me, I have a system that doesn't even use 400W on load, and yet I got a 750W PSU when I built mine (was my first PC build).  A good idea is to go on PCpartpicker and add in all of your hardware, and then whatever number it gives you, get a PSU that goes maybe 100W above that.  For me, I'm aiming for a ryzen/gtx 1060 build and it says it will only use about ~375W, so this time I will only go with a 500W gold PSU.

Completely agree with you on your points.  I've noticed a big dip in content quality lately; I remember watching LTT in 2015 and 2016 and it was way better.  But here come the fanboys with their B.S advice of "if you don't like it, leave" and "you don't know how to run their channel better".  Truly genius commentary.  I'd say some of the recent content is objectively low quality, and the huge amount of dislikes reflect that.  But any criticism is "hate" these days.

Can AMD just fire the entire team that makes the gaming radeon cards and hire some ex-Nvidia employees or something?  The CPU team did awesome with Ryzen.  They need a team like that for Radeon.  AMD GPUs are a fucking mess.  I'd never recommend their cards at this point

It kinda saddens me that some people on this forum are basically only posting to have a go at (or to "educate") the OP.  If it's been done to death or you think there is little point in him posting,  then let it go and post about something else. Just because you think you have it all worked out doesn't mean feedback is irrelevant.  So leave the thread for those who do want to discuss it.  LMG will decide if the feedback is worth acting on, and most likely appreciate that some people actually go to the effort to provide it.

The following is an open letter to Linus Media Group
    ================================================================

    Good Afternoon Linus-
As a father of two in his mid 30’s, one who shares a passion about computer performance, an IT professional of 15 years, and an avid subscriber of your channel for the last several years I would like to offer some constructive criticism about your channel in the last several months.
Don’t get me wrong I love your sense of humor and your realistic outlook on life and tech, but I’m going to list a few recent examples below of where all this went sideways…
    -          1920 x 1080 Meme PC:  This was just a trolling video right?
    -          How many PCIe Extensions: You never tested latency, which is the main concern of extending the signal length; therefore missing the value of the content.
    -          $140,000 on 8k Camera:  The extra step to compare this solution to others on the market would have then how much longer?
    -          Anti-RGB PC:  Again, a troll build? It seemed to me that you were just intentionally wasting valuable PC parts that many of your watchers could only dream to own.
    -          Thumbnails:  Just look at your thumbnails and captions recently.. is the objective to be a meme of yourself, to be the Jester of the industry, or to be a serious technology reviewer in an entertaining way.  Do these thumbnails represent your “brand”?

I would like to offer up some ideas from a layman’s perspective since in your recent WAN show; it sounded like you were out of “good” ideas.
    -          Budget Build-Outs:  Taking the concept of Scrapyard Wars; give MSI/Gigabyte/etc.. a budget and tell them to either send out a rep or send you parts that meet that budget.  Compare the solutions they provide.   This can be done quarterly at different budgets.
    -          Guest Hosts:  There are a lot of very specialized areas of the industry.  Bring in some experts from the various niche groups to show off a small sample of their work and how they do a portion of their “art”.  (Think case designers/Custom water loops)
    -          Wired vs Wireless vs 4g:  Technology is always evolving and it seems like wireless technologies are almost matching the speed and latency of a decent wired connection.  Compare various routers to wired (100/1000Mbps) connections.
    -          WiFi Saturation: Many of our homes have more wireless connections than we realize.  Compare many common wireless routers and identify when each router starts to see latency issues with 5/10/15 connections.  The connections should also be playing games/watching youtube/Netflix much like in our homes.
    -          Scrapyard Quickies:  If you look back at your history of Scrapyard Wars, you will note that Episode 1 usually has more views than subsequent episodes.  Although this might seem counterintuitive to fans like me, your audience speaks volumes.  As I’m sure your time is hard to come by... I would start using your other staff as the participants against each other.  They should order the parts from Amazon (with links to your affiliate of course) and can include used parts from amazon.  This cuts down the travel/filming/editing time associated with the project, and ultimately a quick buildout, benchmark, and vote by you and Luke.   45 minute episodes monthly would keep the fans happy.

If you find any of this helpful, possibly even resulting in video production; I request no direct compensation.  I’m rocking a Sandy Bridge 2500k and an Radeon 7700  on my “main” rig, so perhaps a fair deal on any last gen parts you need to clear out would be helpful but not expected.
There are many, many, many more ideas that I have but wanted to keep this fairly brief.
If you find these ideas more than just a little helpful and you would like to discuss them in more detail I can make myself available for a conference call and have an LLC that would allow me to be a remote consultant if you would like.

That was kinda painful to watch.  I hope that some (most?) of that was playing up Linus' sense of humor and oh look I drop everything persona for the video.  I really hope with as much experience as the team has that you don't send someone so unprepared in the wild with no support and, pardon my shudder, no charge cables.

Though the issues with the equipment is something else.  At what point do you decide that something like that is too much trouble than it's worth, and you're just chasing the investment where you sink so much money into the investment and keep excusing, troubleshooting, and sinking more money and effort into it.

You guys helped me yesterday pick out a motherboard which I have now ordered, along with my CM storm scout 2 case and my kingston SSD.  Thanks for the help!  Now it's time for the GPU.  First of all I don't know which to choose between the new R9 AMD cards or the GTx 700's or 900's.  I've heard the nvidia high end cards use less power and crank out less heat, but they are also more expensive depending on where you look and the deals that are going on.  I'm aiming to be able to run every game on ultra so I was thinking of getting an R9 280x at first but my friend reminded me that for a bit more money the 290 would be a better choice.  Now I'm not sure whether to go with a gtx 780 which has similar performance to an R9 290 or even go for a gtx 970.  Any help here guys?
