980 TI in 2.0 X4 slot?

Friend of mine is having weird issues with framedrops and benchmark scores with his 980 TI.

 

 

I helped him OC it to 1400 mhz, and he ran a Unigine valley bench @ extremeHD preset.  

AVG FPS only 68, seems hella fishy considering I get nearly 100 with my 980, and it's slower.

 

 

I just found out it's in a PCI-E 2.0 X4 slot, ya'll think that's the issue?

What cpu is he using?

 

 

3570k, he should be getting like ~90-100 fps in the test.

Yes, that is low enough to cause some performance loss and perhaps some stuttering.

 

 

mfw, he switched slots and tried to install a new driver, and now he has no display

 

 

I told him I'd install it for him on teamviewer then he did it himself and has no display lol
